BET Awards Prince Tribute

BET Awards' Prince Tribute to Include Sheila E., The Roots and D'Angelo

On Tuesday — the day that Prince would have turned 58 — BET announced the first of the artists who would be paying tribute to the music icon by performing at the 2016 BET Awards.

Sheila E., The Roots, D’Angelo and Janelle Monae are among those who will help deliver a “special musical celebration” honoring the pop/R&B trailblazer, to be “spread throughout the show” and “capture the unprecedented career and musical genius of the beloved pop icon like only BET can,” the network said in a statement.

BET of course is on record as having suggested that Madonna’s performance of two Prince tunes at the Billboard Music Awards was not so much “Purple Rain” but a light drizzle, and in turn promised a dazzling deluge at their own awards show.

What do you think? Will BET’s lineup be able to top Madge and Stevie Wonder? Who do you hope will be added to the list? Hit the comments.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

Who are they kidding. Spreading it throughout the show to make sure people watch the awful so called awards ceremony.

    • Brandon Harris says:

I mean . . . it is likely the only reason I’ll watch the show. Hope they enjoy their sudden spike in attention.

  2. Rob Horine says:

What? No Morris Day and the M***********’ Time? IT’S A OUTRAGE!

  3. AngelWasHere says:

Spread throughout the show? Nobody got time for that! I’ll be skipping it again this year.

I would xpect such artists as members of The Family, The Time, Wendy & Lisa, Candy Dulfer and so on. There´s no proper celebration without.
