SNL Outtake: Matthew McConaughey, 'J-Law,' Jon Hamm and Others Audition for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Believe it or not, Matthew McConaughey was this close to taking over the role of Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: The Force Awakens — at least according to Saturday Night Live.

In a just-released series of outtakes from SNL‘s Star Wars Auditions sketch (first made available by Mashable), McConaughey is one of the many A-listers seen screen-testing for the box office smash. Jennifer Lawrence (as played by Vanessa Bayer), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Taran Killam) and Shia LaBeouf (Kyle Mooney) also try out for the film, but bring a bit too much of themselves to the respective roles.

Later, the Black Eyed Peas (Pete Davidson, Kenan Thompson, Cecily Strong and Jay Pharaoh) showcase a complete lack of versatility when auditioning to be the Cantina band.

Watch the screen tests — which also feature John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Emma Stone and Jon Hamm — play out above, then put those space hands to work and sound off in the comments.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

  1. Max says:

Wow! I can see why this was cut for broadcast.

  2. Morgan says:

Some of those were painful and not in a funny way (which is an accurate description for everything Kyle Mooney does). All of it was worth it for Jon Hamm at the end.

  3. Carrie says:

    Why were these cut??

  4. Kevin K says:

    Really missed Emma Stone…a lot.

  5. Drewer says:

Kyle Mooney’s Shia Lebouf is actually really funny. And I wish they had kept in more of John Boyega’s stuff. Also the visual of the Black Eyed Peas was kind of funny.

  6. Joey Padron says:

Some funny stuff in that outtake for Star Wars auditions.
