Dirty Dancing: Bruce Greenwood Cast as Dr. Jake Houseman in ABC Remake

Dirty Dancing Casts Bruce Greenwood

And the recasting of the Houseman clan is now complete.

Bruce Greenwood, who’s currently co-starring in FX’s American Crime Story, The People vs. OJ Simpson, has been tapped to play Houseman patriarch Jake opposite Debra Messing’s Marjorie in ABC’s three-hour Dirty Dancing remake, TVLine has learned.

The role of Dr. Houseman was played in the original film by the late Jerry Orbach.

As previously reported, Scream Queens‘ Abigail Breslin is set to play their daughter Baby, with Modern Family‘s Sarah Hyland portraying older sis Lisa.

The cast also includes dancer Colt Prattes as Johnny, former Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger as Penny, Billy Dee Williams as charismatic bandleader Tito, and Awkward alum Shane Harper as charming waiter Robbie.

To be adapted for television by Jessica Sharzer (American Horror Story) and counting Dirty Dancing screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein among its executive producers, the reboot will feature “filmed song and dance performances” as it follows Frances “Call Me Baby, But Don’t Put Me in a Corner” Houseman, an innocent 1960s lass who vacations with her family in the Catskills and eventually falls for the resort’s swivel-hipped, working-class dance instructor, Johnny Castle.
