Heathers TV Series, Based on the 1988 Cult Classic, in the Works at TV Land

Heathers TV Show

The original pretty little liars are making tracks for TV Land.

The network on Wednesday announced a pilot script order for Heathers, based on the 1988 Winona Ryder/Christian Slater movie of the same name. Curiously, it’s being billed as TV Land’s “first anthology series,” implying that the cast could change season to season, American Horror Story-style.

Like its predecessor, Heathers will center around Veronica Sawyer (Ryder’s character from the film), a not-so-typical teen whose problems include “dating a murderous psychopath and figuring out what to wear to your best friend’s suicide.” Though further details aren’t yet known, the mean girls Veronica will face in the series are described as a “very different but equally vicious group of Heathers.” (The original Heathers counted Shannen Doherty among their ranks.)
