Shots Fired: Fox's Racially Charged Event Series Adds Selma Star

Stephan James Shots Fired

Fox’s upcoming ripped-from-the-headlines drama Shots Fired has found its male lead in Selma actor Stephan James, TVLine has learned.

Co-created by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball) and Reggie Rock Bythewood (Notorious), the project — which was ordered to series in December — stars Sanaa Lathan (Love & Basketball) as an expert investigator digging into a series of racially charged shootings in a small Tennessee town.

James will co-star as Preston, a special prosecutor sent to the town by the Department of Justice. Together, he and Lathan’s sleuth must navigate the media attention, public debate and social unrest that comes with such volatile cases, as they seek justice before the divided town erupts.

In addition to his work in Selma, James has appeared on Degrassi: The Next GenerationThe L.A. Complex and can currently be seen as Olympian Jesse Owens in the film Race.

Shots Fired is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2016. Your thoughts on James’ casting?
