Katey Sagal to Star in CBS Comedy Pilot About a Family of Drag Racers

Katey Sagal CBS Pilot

Katey Sagal is getting back to her comedic roots.

The Sons of Anarchy actress will star opposite John Carroll Lynch (American Horror Story) in an untitled CBS comedy pilot about an adopted woman named Bess who learns that she hails from a family of drag racers, our sister site Deadline reports.

Sagal will play Bess’ birth mother Julie, who took over for the family’s racing team after her husband (Lynch’s Wayne) lost an eye. She’ll likely butt heads with Bess’ adoptive mother Margaret, played by Mike & Molly‘s Swoosie Kurtz.

Before her dramatic turns on Sons and FX’s short-lived Bastard Executioner, Sagal was best known for her comedic work; her role as Married With Children‘s Peg Bundy, which she played from 1987 to 1997, earned her four Golden Globe nominations. She also voiced Futurama‘s Leela from 1999 to 2013.

Based on the Australian series Upper Middle Bogan, the single-camera comedy is written by Dan O’Shannon, Robyn Butler and Dan Hope.
