Daniel Craig to Star in TV Adaptation of Jonathan Franzen's Purity Novel

Daniel Craig Purity

The big screen’s James Bond is eyeing a small-screen page-turner.

Daniel Craig will star in Purity, a limited series based on Jonathan Franzen’s book of the same name being shopped to multiple networks, our sister site Variety reports.

Showtime, Netflix, FX and several other outlets are in talks to land the project, which is seeking a 20-episode order, according to the report.

Franzen’s novel centers around an aimless young woman named Purity but known as Pip, who was raised in unusual circumstances in Northern California. She winds up bouncing around after college from Oakland to Bolivia to Denver through a series of jobs and relationships with equally offbeat characters.

Given the breadth of Pip’s travels and the many people she encounters, it’s unclear which role Craig would fill. But Purity would mark his first regular stateside TV gig.

Todd Field (Little Children) will direct and share writing duties with Franzen.
