Matt Bomer to Star in Amazon Pilot Tycoon Set in 1930s Hollywood

Matt Bomer Amazon Pilot

Less than a year after White Collar wrapped its six-season run, Matt Bomer is looking to headline his next TV series.

Bomer will star in the Amazon pilot Tycoon, based on the unfinished F. Scott Fitzgerald novel The Last Tycoon, our sister site Deadline reports.

Bomer, who currently stars on FX’s American Horror Story: Hotel, will play 1930s movie mogul Monroe Stahr, a character inspired by Hollywood legend Irving Thalberg. The series, like the source novel, will follow Monroe’s rise as a studio executive, a journey which eventually puts him at odds with studio head Pat Brady — who also happens to be Monroe’s mentor. Brady is inspired by MGM co-founder Louis B. Mayer.

The pilot was written by Billy Ray (Captain Phillips), who will also direct.
