Shades of Blue Premiere Date

Shades of Blue, NBC's Jennifer Lopez Cop Drama, to Launch in January

Beginning in early 2016, it’s Detective Jennifer Lopez to you.

NBC announced Wednesday that its JLo-fronted cop drama Shades of Blue will debut Thursday, Jan. 14 at 9/8c with a special two-hour episode.

Following its super-sized Jan. 14 launch, Shades of Blue — which also stars Ray Liotta and Drea de Matteo — will shift to its regular Thursday-10/9c timeslot on Jan. 21 (replacing The Player).

Shades finds Lopez playing Harlee Santos, a cop at the heart of a tight-knit crew of Brooklyn detectives, led by Lt. Matt Wozniak (Liotta), who often leads the team to step outside the limitations of the law in order to effectively protect their precinct and their own. As a big illegal job looms on the horizon, the FBI catches Harlee in the act and pits her against her own unit. As a newly turned informant, Harlee struggles to safeguard her on-the-job family and avoid arrest in order to stay with her daughter.

Check out the official poster below and then hit the comments with an answer to this question: Is the one-sheet too cheesy, just cheesy enough, or is it screaming for more cheese.

  1. sillyemmy says:

    That poster is HORRIBLE.

    • Mindeesa says:

Does it take place in the mid 90s? She looks like she’s trying to do her best Olivia Benson.

      • lechatnoir says:

It reads 1994 lol! I love JLO but she doesn’t strike me as someone whose name would be Harlee Mc Cord , it has country bottle blonde written all over it. They don’t need to give her a Spanish sounding name however.

  2. Mr. Tran K says:

Should be a good show but I don’t know if it’s going to fill the void in either time slots: Thursdays at 9 (depending on whether Blacklist comes back from hiatus) or at 10 (vacated by The Player).

    • Dean says:

My thoughts exactly they might but Thursdays at 10 are like Mondays look at CBS and NCIS LA. The move may hurt blacklist.

  3. Dean says:

Wonder if this means they’ll move blacklist at 10.

  4. jss0058 says:

I thought this was supposed to be a summer show?

The cast is promising but the time slot isn’t.

  5. Shaun says:

    This screams fail.

    • Sam says:

My first thought too! The poster reminds me of one of those parody ‘show within a show’ like they are using on The Grinder.

  6. MFL says:

I like Ray Liotta & Drea so I will tune in…

  7. peterwdawson says:

Definitely gonna tune in, but man, January on Thursdays? This could be an uphill battle even if it is a good show (which I’m hoping it will be).

  8. pati says:

the poster is pretty terrible, that suit uggghh ugly, get Jlo’s real stylist, she is usually impeccable. The slogan is pretty cheesey too

  9. Erika says:

This show will get canceled because of the 10 pm is a curse.

  10. Diz says:

I want Rookie Blue or NYPD Blue, not JLo who.

  11. N says:

    Not liking the poster

  12. Tony Lang says:

January – “NBC trims Shades of Blue episode order to Don’t-Bother-Watching”.

    • Secret Insider says:

That won’t happen. The show was ordered to series (due to JLo, of course) and I’m pretty sure they’ve already wrapped the first season. She had to be done before IDOL kicked into one last full gear.

      • jjk says:

did anyone at nbc ever seen gigli or any other j lo movie at all? Acting is not her strongest suit unless lots of music videos with skimpy clothes are involved.

        • Tennisnsun says:

I am amazed not only that she is still trying to act, but that others are willing to support and pay her for it. Maybe she payed them??

  13. robandco says:

Nothing turns me off like a cop show does. Unless it’s a comedy (B99 is gold). JLo can’t really act so I hope for the sake of NBC that the rest of the cast is spot on.

  14. Yoki says:

    Three episodes tops.

  15. NotaJ-LoActingFan says:

not interesting to me. glad to see de Matteo is keeping busy.

  16. Sam says:

Thursdays at 10….. this can’t be good. This has become NBC’s death timeslot.

  17. Lisa says:

No thanks, not a fan of JLo. I would much rather have them keep The Player. But that’s not happening so I’ll find something else to watch.

  18. Pete says:

Some of you do not actually read or absorb what you are reading
2 hour ep at 9, moves to 10 the following week!

  19. Jared says:

I like Jennifer Lopez.. just not as an actress and NBC sure isn’t doing this show any favors with that time slot.

  20. Lizo says:

I’m *so* excited for this. I’m a big fan of JLo and I’m glad she’s doing a tv show.

  21. Melora says:

    I predict an epic flop!

  22. Ali says:

I give it six episodes before it gets cancelled or she fails to uphold her contract and goes full on diva (laten to the set, petty etc.)

  23. Guy says:

Too bad Drea de Matteo isn’t the lead instead of JLo.

  24. Heathers says:

Pati, do you think any cop would wear a fancy designer gown on the job, and have a hairstylist and makeup artist every morning? Just wonderin, because if female cops do, I’m going to enroll in the police academy pronto!

  25. Dude says:

They already have Chicago PD and Law and Order. Why do they need another cop show?

  26. Ange says:

  27. Abby says:

Very nice. Depicts the in between good cop and bad cop in the blue shade colors and Jlo in life colors. It’s just that Jlo is a superstar and I would like to see her blend with the cast, even in poster as a team player, but, the poster must depict the story setting which we are anxious to see and then it probably would be ooooh I get it.

  28. Ray Liotta is the ONLY reason why i’ll even consider checking this out.

  29. Ram510 says:

And then it’ll plummet straight to the 1’s after the 21st

  30. Monika says:

    Jen is 46 years old!!!!

  31. herman1959 says:

I have to agree with previous posters, it does look like something from the ’90. It reminds me of the ads they used to run for NYPD Blue. I think this would be better as a film.

  32. Lyn says:

Love her, but dislike Ray Liotta so I’m on the fence.

  33. Madeline says:

I cant wait…. If Jlo is fronting it’ll be a great success. The poster looks fantastic as well.

  34. Lang Montgomery says:

Why would such a huge star like Jennifer Lopez lower herself to do a tv show? Won’t that tarnish her star status?

  35. Bob Preston says:

All right. Enough of these ridiculous female cop dramas. Time for a reality check people. If any of these ‘cops’ tried any of these ridiculous punches on a real person, they would break there hand or arm. And really, go into any local police department, anywhere in the country and show me a precinct filled with all these ‘hot’ bodies…! Really, just a joke..
