Ricky Gervais Returning to Host the Golden Globes in 2016

Ricky Gervais Golden Globes

After taking a few years off from hosting the Golden Globes — much to the delight of easily-offended viewers everywhere — Ricky Gervais will return to emcee the ceremony in 2016.

The star of the U.K.’s The Office hosted from 2009–2011, before making way for the Golden Globes dream team of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. News of Gervais’ comeback was formally (yet sneakily) announced Monday in a tweet from the Globes’ official account:

“We’re excited to have Ricky Gervais back to host the most enjoyable awards show of the season in his own inimitable way,” NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement. “Disarming and surprising, Ricky is ready to honor — and send up — the best work of the year in film and television. Fasten your [seat belts].”

The 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards will air Sun, Jan. 10 at 8/7c on NBC.
