According to the site, the Grammy-winning pop band has had “extensive talks” about providing entertainment during the biggest football game of the year.
Other acts rumored to have been in the running include Bruno Mars, who performed during the 2014 Super Bowl, and Coldplay.
Katy Perry did the honors (complete with dancing sharks, a giant golden lion and, of course, fireworks) in 2015.
The 2016 big game will be broadcast on CBS from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Sunday, Feb. 7.
