Video: Gillian Anderson Sends Cheeky Message to X-Files Fans @ NYCC

Gillian Anderson was halfway around the world on Saturday when The-X-Files‘ panel/screening was getting underway at New York Comic-Con, but that didn’t stop the Emmy winner from making a surprise cameo at the event.

To the delight of fans, Scully’s portrayer appeared via a taped message from Jodhpur, India, where she is currently on location filming the British-Indian period drama Viceroy’s House. Anderson apologized for not being able to join series creator Chris Carter and co-stars David Duchovny and Mitch Pileggi on the dais, but here’s the funny twist: She delivered the communiqué while in character as English heiress Edwina Mountbatten — her alter ego in Viceroy’s House.

Watch the clip above and then hit the comments with an answer to this question: Gillian Anderson, FTW, yes?

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

  1. Eric says:

I know she lives in England now but that is the worst accent I have ever heard. I was expecting her to say “Clean your chimminy govener?”

  2. thisismenow says:

Now the previous post about the accent makes sense. XD Sorry for my previous questioning glance Michael!

  3. Cathy says:

    She always wins!

  4. midwestslp says:

Wow, and I thought you guys were fans. Anyone who follows this actress would have known that she was in character and being funny. Her English accent is nothing like this one she put on for the video.

  5. Thandie says:

She’s just awesome in everything she does! And, yes – she’s in character here. Gillian is American-English; she was born in the US, but grew and lives in London and her sons are British. Therefor she’s bidialectal and shifts easily between her British and American accents. If you want an idea of Gillian’s real British Accent, watch The Fall.

  6. Claire says:

All that needs to be said is that she’s perfect! ♡

  7. Angela says:

The heart and soul of The X Files has always been the relationship between Mulder and Scully. All else is peripheral.

  8. Gillian FTW. Always :)

People criticizing her accent… are you for real?

  9. Laurie says:

She does such an extraordinary job with each character she portrays! Most of the characters are so completely different from any other that she played before. She is an incredible gifted actress.! FTW? Yes. As long as that means For the Win.

  10. CheekyGillianFan says:

That was actually kinda funny. Her British accent.

  11. Cate53 says:

I went to a talk with Gillian just over a year ago here in England and despite seeing her on British tv for years, it was still strange. I always wonder how it works – does she get off the plane in the US or the UK and just switch? Does she do it consciously? Does it sort of fade in? As she jets around and is on a lot of different shows in both countries I wonder whether she has to think about it. A British Scully just wouldn’t be right!

This was her best Queen Elizabeth one – and clearly a joke!

  12. Coney says:

Love her, but the accent is as bad as it is in The Fall.

  13. That nice your boyfriend cleans pools lol
