NFL Kickoff Ratings

Ratings: NFL Kickoff Draws 27.4 Million Viewers, Second-Largest Audience Ever

NBC’s broadcast of the NFL Kickoff game between the Patriots and Steelers on Thursday night drew 27.4 million total viewers and a 10.3 demo rating (per updated numbers), up 300,000 viewers versus last year’s match-up.

It thus stands as the second most-watched NFL Kickoff game in the 14-year history of the event, trailing only 2010’s Saints/Vikings opener (which drew 27.5 mil).

CBS | Big Brother (6.1 mil/1.9) dipped a tenth while the Under the Dome series finale (4.3 mil/0.8, average “C+” grade from TVLine readers) added some eyeballs but was flat in the demo.

THE CW | Beauty and the Beast (810K/0.2) was steady week-to-week but down a tenth from its Season 2 finale.

FOX | Boom! (1.9 mil/0.5) slipped two tenths with its finale.

  1. Mrs. Tran K says:

The NFL on NBC broadcast of the Patriots and Steelers was a great matchup made for TV with what has been going on with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots with headline news the past few months. Stephens Kings Under the Dome was a ratings success early, and remained one of the best summer shows that CBS and its partners could have hoped for.

Hate to wonder if the Pats should repeat as champs like they did since 2003 and 2004 as the last team to do so.
