Martin Milner Dead

Martin Milner, Star of Adam-12 and Route 66, Dead at 83

Veteran TV actor Martin Milner, best known for his starring roles in Adam-12 and Route 66, has died. He was 83.

After launching his career in such war-themed films Sands Of Iwo Jima (1949), Operation Pacific (1951) and Halls Of Montezuma (1951), Milner began his gradual transition to the small screen with a recurring role in Dragnet and guest stints on Wagon Train and The Twilight Zone.

In 1960, he scored his big break opposite George Maharis in Route 66, which ran for four seasons and nearly 120 episodes on CBS. He followed that up with a co-starring role NBC’s long-running cop drama Adam-12.

Milner’s other TV credits included Murder, She Wrote, Diagnosis Murder, Police Story, Fantasy Island, MacGyver and Life Goes On.

Was always a big fan of Mr. Milner and once had an opportunity to see Adam-12 being filmed in Los Angeles. Not only got me out of school, he was a true gentleman to all the fans watching that day. My heartfelt condolences to his family and fans. :-(

  10. JB says:

I recently re-watched all the Adam-12 episodes when they were shown on MeTV. I hadn’t seen them since I was a kid.

It was fun to watch him serve as a mentor…not only his character’s mentoring his junior partner on the show, but I’d guess Milner mentoring Kent McCord, his younger co-star who’s skills improved markedly during the series.

Route 66 was a huge hit at the time, and he stayed with the series after his first co-star left.

Also, after Adam-12 he starred in “Swiss Family Robinson” on ABC.

  11. Fran says:

So sorry. We will miss you Martin.
