Season 2 of the dysfunctional family/MMA drama Kingdom will premiere Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 9/8c on the DirecTV Audience Network, it was announced Sunday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills.
The series was renewed in October for 20 episodes, which DirecTV has since made clear represent separate second and third seasons, to be filmed back-to-back.
Kingdom‘s sophomore run begins with Ryan “The Destroyer” Wheeler (Friday Night Lights‘ Matt Lauria) defending his title and Jay (Parenthood‘s Jonathan Tucker) finding a new obsession, while Alvey’s (Frank Grillo) improved fortune has led to a bigger gym, but also a bigger appetite for risk.
Elsewhere, Lisa focuses on managing a female fighter (new series regular Natalie Martinez, Under the Dome), Nate’s determination to get back in the cage causes rifts with his family, while Christina gets a taste of the sober life.
In addition to Martinez joining the cast, Mark Consuelos (All My Children) and Jessica Szohr (Complications) will recur as an old friend of Alvey’s and a Jay’s aforementioned obsession, respectively.
