Orange Is the New Black inmate Black Cindy is a jovial sort — so even her portrayer, Adrienne C. Moore, had little idea of her character’s “emotional truth” until last season’s “Comic Sans” episode.
In the exclusive behind-the-scenes clip above, Moore recalls reading the script for the hour — in which we learn that Cindy was a TSA agent who pretends that her daughter is her little sister — and being shocked by the argument between the character and her mom.
“I had never experienced Cindy getting that angry,” Moore says. “She uses humor to mask a lot of difficult areas in her life.”
Season 2 of Netflix’s prison dramedy is available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD on May 19; Season 3 premieres June 12 on the streaming video service. Until then, press PLAY on the video at the top of the post to watch Moore delve into her character.
