Covert Affairs First Look: Annie Shoots Down Ryan's 'Off the Field' Advances

On tonight’s Covert Affairs (USA Network, 10/9c), Annie is forced to take Ryan McQuaid with her on a mission, but that doesn’t mean she has to like it — a fact she makes perfectly clear in TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek.

“This wasn’t my idea,” the spy gal quickly points out to Ryan. When he counters that he earned her trust in Paris, Annie admits that she believes in his skills on the field.

“And off the field?” he asks.

Her ouch-inducing reply: “There is no ‘off the field.'”

It’s amazing how she has developed as an actress during the run of this show.

These two are headed for the “undercover” in more ways that one!……Great chemistry……work well together and the “heat” exchange is beyond smoldering.

  5. Sara says:

I know it’s a long shot but I’ll always hold out hope for Eyal.

  6. Barbara says:

I am starting to like the chemistry between Annie & Ryan. Still like her with Eyal but Ryan & her work well too. Just as long as they don’t put her back with Auggie.

Annie lowered the BOOM on Big Mac with that …”there is no OFF the field” and trying to make it impossible for him to get the “Show on the road” with the 44 minute deadline. By the end of the episode, we realized that Annie must be a feline, cause Big Mac has “saved” her life close to 9 times now, he is now working on her “soul” and closely following will be winning her heart. She has “B” slapped him so many times, and when it counts……………….he delivers…………even letting her know he is interested enough to research her condition. He did not argue with her at the start of their new adventure, but ended it by telling her she needed to “listen” to him and it appears she did……………….taking it all to “heart”.

I love their sparring. Ryan seems to genuinely care for her and continues to help and look out for her in the field. I appreciated McQuaid’s astute comment in Paris to Annie that everyone needs looking after and hope that is what he is trying to do for her. While looking after Annie has been and still is typically Auggie’s role and why I think Annie told Ryan she did not need a team, Ryan has shown himself to be helpful in the field and would make a nice addition to Team Annie.

I also love the chemistry between Annie and Ryan. I think they have the potential to be a strong team and fun couple both professionally and personally, if Annie will allow it. I agree that Ryan has proven he can help keep her physically safe in the field and has seemed to be emotionally supportive in complementing her “dark move” with Borz, sharing his story of learning to trust others,, indicating that she unlike Mueller did the right thing even if she was broken, and telling her she did not have to be alone.

However, that being said, I am not convinced she should trust Ryan just yet. I still have nagging doubts about his motives. After all the emotional turmoil Annie has survived with Ben, Jai, Simon, Lena, Teo, and Henry, she has just cause to distance herself form others and protect herself emotionally. While Annie and Auggie are close, Annie has indicated she is not comfortable sharing some of the “dark” things she has done such as how she broke Borz with him. Although I agree with Ryan’s argument that there would be a benefit for Annie to let someone close to her so she would not feel/be so alone, it would be a tragic and unforgivable betrayal for Ryan to be the one to break through her defenses, gain her trust, exploit it, and hurt her in the process to achieve his own ends. Thus, until there is definite proof that he has her best interests at heart and is not out to exploit her vulnerabilities, I am fine with her keeping some distance and pushing him away.

Fantastic Ryan and Annie chemistry…. Can’t wait for something physical to happen. Hopefully she won’t shoot him:) sorry but Auggie is just still a kid.
