Arrow's John Barrowman Promises  'The Best of Brutal Times' for Thea, Hints at Lighter Duds for Dark Archer

There are similarities between Torchwood‘s Captain Jack and Arrow‘s Malcolm Merlyn, John Barrowman noted during his visit to TVLine’s San Diego Comic-Con video suite.

Chatting with Michael Ausiello, Barrowman drew the aforementioned parallel, and then got down to Arrow business, first revealing the scene he “can’t wait” to film. (Let’s just say that it will set the stage for what he promises to be “the best of brutal times” for the pretty woman who climbed into Malcolm’s limo in the finale.)

Now a series regular on Arrow, Barrowman also teases Malcolm’s (possible) new role as puppet-master, and then he shares an inside look at the claustrophobic confines of his Dark Archer ensemble — and how a special favor he called in might “trim down” Malcolm’s get-up.

This season will be awesome with Malcolm back and Ra’s al Ghul!
I like the idea of a little change in the Dark Archer’s costume, all the Nyssa’s sidekicks use that costume! he needs one with something particular.
Love the passion John puts in his work, great guy :)

  2. Moment says:

What Barrowman did at the Commonwealth Games opening was incredible. Yeah he kissed another guy live on TV, but a lot of those Commonwealth countries are against that. Hard not to cheer for him. So happy he’s still on Arrow too.

“A lot of those commonwealth countries are against that.” – I’m not quite sure how to take this. As someone from New Zealand, I think I can quite easily say that the Commonwealth is very much ahead of the curve on matters such as this. Sure, it also includes a number of very poor countries where civil rights are often not given the priority that they should be. But those countries also probably have few people watching the opening ceremony.

      • Moment says:

I didn’t say every country, I said a lot, which is true. I also only mentioned because he mentions the Commonwealth Games during his interview with Ausselo, I thought it was quite a notable thing. I think the man is a great actor and support him entirely.

Can you go to Vancover and get an interview with Emily Bett and Brandon Roush together sometime this season? If it’s not too much trouble. Thank you!

  4. Sparky says:

Kinda bummed that Michael didn’t get Stephen in for an interview not that I mind hearing what John has to say, he has so much energy…it’s infectious…but still!!! Bring on S3 it looks like it is going to be absolutely brilliant.

  5. Kristina says:

Glad he will be around this season! I always thought they got rid of him too early, he was a great villain.

  6. Big D says:

Belated shoutout for TVLine’s awesome coverage of Comic-Con. And an extremely overdue tip of the cap to TVLine for always having the best coverage of some fantastic shows that don’t get enough attention from most critics/media: Arrow, Supernatural, Sleepy Hollow and Castle.

  7. Big D says:

I need to add The Big Bang Theory to the list of shows that TVLine does an awesome job of covering.
