With great power comes great…. Er, wrong universe.
The cast of Fox’s Gotham knows that devotees of the Batman comic books are “the best and most ardent fans in the world,” and as such they are ready to do right by the young Bruce Wayne’s hometown.
“For 75 years, this franchise has been around, so we’re well aware of the responsibility,” notes Donal Logue (Sons of Anarchy), who plays Gotham police detective Jim Gordon’s shady partner, Harvey Bullock. “But we’re eager to show it to them.”
As the cast visited TVLine’s San Diego Comic-Con suite en masse, Ben McKenzie (who plays Gordon) compared the streets of Gotham to those of Southland‘s Los Angeles, Logue and Jada Pinkett Smith teased “a long history” between Bullock and mob boss Fish Mooney, and Camren Bicondova and David Mazouz cast their votes for favorite Catwomen and Batmen of the past.
Exec producer Danny Cannon meanwhile trumpeted the titular metropolis, as envisioned here for the small screen, as “a character” in and of itself, “a perfect fantasy of everything we remember about Gotham.”
