TVLine Items: Vampire Diaries Adds 2, Disney's Haunted Mansion and More

The Vampire Diaries’ new doctor is in.

Marco James (The Client List) has been tapped for a recurring role on Season 6 of the CW dramaTheWrap reports.

The actor will play Liam, a “cocky yet good-natured” med student at Whitmore College, who comes from a family of doctors. Liam will first appear on the show’s Season 6 premiere, airing Thursday, Oct. 2.

Rectify‘s Jayson Warner Smith has also signed on for Season 6, appearing in at least two episodes as the owner of a high-end hot rod shop. The Vampire Diaries has recently cast a number of guest stars, including Eureka‘s Colin Ferguson and newcomer Gabrielle Walsh.

* Disney Television Animation is developing Haunted Mansion, a Disney Channel/Disney XD special inspired by the popular Disney Parks ride. Gris Grimly (Gris Grimly’s Wicked Nursery Rhymes) is attached to art direct, while Phineas and Ferb’s Scott Peterson and Joshua Pruett will pen the script.

* June Diane Raphael (NTSF:SD:SUV) and Baron Vaughn (Fairly Legal) have joined Grace and Frankie, Netflix’s upcoming comedy starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, our sister site Deadline reports. Raphael will play Brianna — the rebellious older daughter of Fonda’s Grace and Martin Sheen’s Robert — and Vaughn will play Bud, the adopted son of Tomlin’s Frankie and Sam Waterston’s Sol.

* Susan Heyward (The Following)Powers Susan Heyward has landed the lead female role in Powers, Sony Playstation Network’s upcoming adaptation of the Brian Michael Bendis/Michael Avon Oeming graphic novel series, per Deadline. Powers follows two detectives — one of them played by Heyward — who protect humans from people with supernatural abilities.

* Entertainment Tonight co-host Rob Marciano is exiting the program after 18 months, TheWrap reports. A former meteorologist, Marciano has reportedly landed a soon-to-be-announced gig with a major outlet, after expressing interest in returning to hard news. His ET replacement has not yet been selected.

* NBC will air a sneak preview episode of The Mysteries of Laura on Wednesday, Sept. 17, following the season finale of America’s Got Talent. The new Debra Messing dramedy will then make its regular time slot premiere on Sept. 24 at 8 pm.

* The cast of Marvel’s upcoming film Guardians of the Galaxy — including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper and wrestler Dave Bautista — will visit Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, July 21.
