Homeland's Damian Lewis Is PBS' King Henry VIII

Damian Lewis PBS Henry VIIIDamian Lewis has gone from playing Abu Nazir’s pawn to England’s king.

Having wrapped a three-season on Showtime’s Homeland, the British actor next will play King Henry VIII in PBS Masterpiece‘s presentation of Wolf Hall.

Directed by BAFTA winner Peter Kosminsky (White Oleander) and written by Academy Award nominee Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), the six-part adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s Booker Prize-winning novels charts the meteoric rise of Thomas Cromwell (played by Mark Rylance, The Other Boleyn Girl) in the Tudor court, from his lowly start as a blacksmith’s son to Henry VIII’s closest advisor.

Other casting includes Claire Foy (Little Dorrit) as Anne Boleyn, Jonathan Pryce (Cranford) as Cardinal Thomas Wolsey and Joanne Whalley (The Borgias) as Henry’s first wife, Katherine of Aragon.

Filming is underway in the South West of England, with an eye on a 2015 premiere.
