Ryan Murphy's Open Pilot Recruits Wes Bentley

Open Season 1 Cast Wes BentleyOne Open role is now closed: Wes Bentley has signed on to star in the sexy HBO drama pilot from Glee‘s Ryan Murphy.

The provocative project, which was penned by Murphy and Dexter co-executive producer Lauren Gussis, revolves around five characters. Among them are a thirtysomething married couple, the husband’s male co-worker and a female yoga professional in her 40s.

Bentley’s part — per our sister site Deadline — is Evan Foster, a good-looking but arrogant guy who won’t shut up when it comes to his theories about human sexuality.

Since his breakout role in 1999’s American Beauty, Bentley has worked primarily in film. His only other TV work was the 2010 HBO pilot Tilda, which was not ordered to series. Most recently, he appeared as gamemaker Seneca Crane in The Hunger Games movie.

i see ryan murphy’s attention span is as long as usual. seriously how many shows is he working on or developing at the same time? its ridiculous. maybe this is why the quality of glee is in the toilet, he should really stick to one thing and try to make it good.

    • Sean says:

Assuming you haven’t been watching American Horror Story? This past season, “Asylum” was one of the finest seasons of television I’ve ever seen. Incredible work by Mr. Murphy and his team. Glee is a different story but you can’t deny this man’s talent.

      • Dave says:

Really? One of the finest seasons of television you’ve ever seen? Have you not watched much television? Because that sounds like a huge overstatement. Asylum was fine, but to me, it didn’t even come close to a slew of other current and past seasons of better television shows.

  2. lisa says:

He’s currently only working on Glee (where he shares show running tasks with Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuck) AHS (which is a limited series and only airs for 12 weeks in the fall and he also shares showrunning tasks with BF on this as well) and now Open which is a pilot and hasn’t even been ordered to series. the film the open heart hasn’t even begun production yet for HBO

  3. Kate'shomesick says:

Glad to see Mr. Bentley working…after he has struggled in the past that’s a nice development! Congrats!

  4. Jonas says:

I’m sorry, but this script was capital H-O-R-R-I-B-LE. Read like a bad version of MTV’s Undressed for monogamous-challenged man-children. Neeeext.
