Ratings: America's Got Talent Tops Tuesday, While The Voice and SYTYCD Slip

Ratings America's Got Talent Season 8 PremiereNBC’s America’s Got Talent kicked off Season 8 with a total audience of 11.1 million total viewers and a 3.1 demo rating — an all-time low for a premiere, yet besting all Tuesday comers, even lead-in The Voice, in both measures.

Versus its previous premiere (which aired in-season), AGT added a handful of viewers and was down 16 percent in the demo, though the show was up 5 and 30 percent from last September’s finale.

  1. Leondre says:

The Voice was down because viewership levels are lower at 8:00, especially in the summer.

    • Lee says:

Or maybe viewers didn’t care which country singer would get eliminated. It was all ho-hum. That and the boring duets.

  2. Elizabeth says:

I’m really worried about the ratings slide for SYTYCD. To me it has always been the best of the talent-based reality shows and the only reason I look forward to summer (I live in Texas). I just don’t understand why Fox has never really embraced this show… And now they’ve really handicapped it by canceling the results show. I don’t know anyone who enjoys the 1-night format. Worried this will be its last season.

  3. Chablis says:

I agree on SYTYCD. They should move this away from Voice/AGT. Move it to Thursday. Cancel the dreadful Fire a Person Job Show. SYTYCD was really good last night.

  4. Alienate says:

Did last year’s AGT premiere start at 9pm and go to 11pm? That seems late for a family show. And prolly affected it’s ratings. BTW, I liked the 2 new girl judges. They are short and sweet in their comments, and take the job seriously.

  5. mia says:

Love AGT and I LOVE the new judges panel! Heidi and Mel fit in fabulously, have great personalities and take it seriously. I watch AGT for the talent, but also the judges and this season with Heidi, Mel, Howie, Howard (and of course the fabulously delightful Nick) its going to be a great season!!

  6. G says:

I agree with the new panel on AGT (I liked Sharon too, but this reall works), and I was really happy that over the 2 hour premiere that they kept the bad/wierd/wacky acts to a minimum and really showcased the good and promising acts.

  7. So You Think You Can Dance is a GREAT format completely weighed down by the two worst judges on TV (Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy). The only reason the hideous looking old British man has the job is because he created the show. SYTYCD would be a million times better without a creepy dirty-old-British-man leering and making sexualized comments about American dancers.

And Mary, oh Mary. She was a has-been wanna be dancer who had a great team build her into something. All smoke and mirrors because she is the single most annoying person on TV. And her off camera antics (lie after lie after lie, fake injuries, abusive dead ex-husband who turned out to be alive, monthly cancer “scares,” deadbeat non-payment disputes with her best friend’s contractor husband and her long suffering/loyal manager, alcohol and drug abuse, etc., etc.) are worse.

Sad that these two losers ruin a great format. And for those who think FOX hasn’t supported the show: TEN SEASONS of mediocre ratings. FOX has gone above and beyond. They just can’t get rid of Nigel. Too bad.
