    Ooooh…..a Red John finale. Original.

    • Anna says:

^^^^THIS. They should just end this storyline. This show used to be my favourite and now I’m not even up to date…

    • lilu says:

I don’t consider it a finale. Red John goes to the 6th season.

      • kirads09 says:

I honestly would consider the reveal of Red John (capture? death of?) the SERIES finale of Mentalist. Can’t see where the show could go without that underlying story.

    • Sara says:

Exactly! As much as I loved Monk, I didn’t like the episodes that dealt with his wife’s murder. Same thing with Mentalist & obviously I’m not alone.

      • Irena Gallo says:

You’re not alone. But Jane’s need for revenge against Red John has driven The Mentalist from day one. Would The Mentalist BE even remotely interesting with the Jane character if we had no such strong “backstory”? I mean the Jane character is amusing and clever when he helps solve a crime, but without Red John, there’s really nothing to him.

In real life, many, if not all folks, personally and professionally, are literally driven by a major life event (albeit not the equivalent of losing your family to a serial killer who is now in a cat-and-mouse, life-and-death game with you). Jane is no different. I agree. Once Red John is revealed, what’s left? And they really should have given Lisbon, for example, an equally driving backstory. (They did, briefly with the Henry Ian Cusick character. But there’s so little to her, you can hardly care about her.)

The Mentalist is a character-driven show that uses crime-solving as a way to allow Jane to search for Red John.

        • kirads09 says:

          This! Spot on.

          • lyn says:

ITA. Nearly everyone on that show is one dimensional. Cho is so Joe Friday, he’s practically an android. Rigsby is a taller Barney Fife [nervous Nellie]. Van Pelt is Miss Priss. Lisbon is dry to the point of severe drought. And Jane is a mischievous boy on a mission. BORING!

      • Supernatural fan says:

I agree. I want the reveal to be well thought out and lines up with everything we know about RJ.

Can’t wait for Orphan Black! Amazed the *article* doesn’t list Orphan Black but rather The Nerdist.

  5. willeggert says:

I don’t get the hate for the Red John storyline, I like that Bruno Heller doesn’t bow to fan’s demands to resolve the storyline, I think he has a master plan for how Red John gets unmasked, and I think it’ll be great. We need to stop demanding everything right away when it comes to TV shows; i.e. Castle and Beckett needed to be together sooner, Jess and Nick in New Girl is another example, we just can’t wait for anything anymore. Take a chill pill and enjoy the ride.

    • Chester says:

The problem is when they draw the story out too long because they don’t have anything left to follow. Nick and Jess seem to be moving at an appropriate pace. Castle and Beckett took too long and now some of their problems seem out of character for Castle who has always seemed very committed to Beckett.

      • kirads09 says:

My reason for not wishing the ending of the RJ storyline: hunting Red John is pretty much Jane’s entire “Raison d’être” and at the core of the show. So once that is accomplished – what could possibly come next? The “murder of the week” is entertaining in that we get to see Jane figure stuff out. However Mentalist becomes just your typical procedural w/o the RJ premise underlying everything.

        • K. says:

Well Red John has many followers so one or more could hurt or kill one of Janes friends and that would continue the story line! Of course I’m one of the people that want the Red John killed or caught and to move on…..

    • lilu says:

Red John made sense for 3 seasons. After 5 seasons we know that it’s a white male and Lorelei’s clue says that it not Patrick’s family member. Most of the suspects appeared only in one or two episodes through the 5 years. It’ super slow.

    • Supernatural fan says:

      Agreed. Enjoy the ride.

  6. Berry says:

    Orphan Black.

  7. jon says:

i’m glad bruno heller is keeping this storyline too. from the very beginning red john storyline brought me into the show, i like all the other characters on the show too but this story in the background as been its backbone. i really do feel the same people wanting this storyline to end will be wanting this show over after this part is revealed. keep the suspense coming mentalist!

  8. Andy says:

    OUAT, Revenge, and The Mentalist

  9. Irena Gallo says:

You think Red John is boring on The Menatlist? Not as boring as ANY episode of Mad Men this season. And the Mad Men characters? With the exception of Peggy and maybe Dawn…awful people acting like babies. Couldn’t care less about them and there’s no show if you don’t care something for the characters. BORING with a cap B. Matt Weiner has perpetrated the ultimate con on his audience. (Not unlike a lot of stuff with the Sopranos) The audience and the reviewers read more into an episode of Mad Men than Weiner et al ever worte.

  10. Irena Gallo says:

Whoops. Agreed with willeggert post. Not the ones that followed.

  14. Shannon2 says:

I like the mentalist and the hunt for Red John and found I was able to get back in after the Jane going crazy debacle last season and meeting Lorelei.. I just hope the writers think and line up who Red John is with all the clues we know so far. I do not want it to be a Monkesque type screw up. If he does find Red John and somehow is unable to kill him he cans till have fun with Jane from behind bars etc.. I liked what LaRoche said about Jane and Jane although his methods are not always proper legal etc.. La Roche knew Jane was alright because he push and pushed his team to solve cases and where as other teams were not so like that..
That episode the leak was so blatantly the media lady it was still enjoyable, but predictable..

    The Mentalist

  19. Cecelia says:

Call the Midwife – even though I miss Chumley, I still am enjoying this show. Season 2 is just as good as the 1st season.
The Bletchley Circle – I didn’t know there were only 3 episodes to this series. Eeek. Your description is making me very nervous for Susan – more so than I was at the end of the last episode. Does anyone know if there is a second season for this show?

    I love both these shows.
