Exclusive: Mira Sorvino to Headline Drama Pilot Trooper – This Time For TNT

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: Mira Sorvino has signed on to star in Trooper, an hour-long procedural for TNT about a common-sense mother-turned-New York state trooper.

Sounds familiar, right? That’s because Sorvino was attached to the same project last spring when it was in development at CBS. The Eye network ultimately passed on the Warner Bros.-produced drama, but TNT saw enough potential to greenlight a new pilot last month. Execs at the cable net clearly liked some of the original casting decisions, seeing as how their search for a new leading lady led them right back to Sorvino.

The Oscar winner will play KJ Flaxton, a recently divorced female state trooper who is as unconventional at work as she is at home raising her three kids. Her partner on the job is a widowed father (played by Jay Hernandz in the CBS incarnation) who has a much more by-the-book approach to policing.

Aron Eli Coleite penned the script and will serve as an EP alongside Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed.

Sorvino has dabbled in television before, mostly appearing as a guest star in episodes of Will & Grace and House.
