Casting Quickies: Arrow Targets Vampire Diaries Alum Kelly Hu, Ed Asner Returns to Hawaii

Kelly Hu, who has appeared on multiple episodes of The Vampire Diaries as Katherine’s vampire pal Pearl, has been tapped to guest-star on The CW’s freshman drama Arrow.

Hu, whose credits also include Hawaii Five-0 and Army Wives and voice work on Young Justice and Phineas and Ferb, will portray China White, a villainess created for DC Comics’ Green Arrow: Year One series of graphic novels. In an early Season 1 episode of Arrow, China will be introduced as a South Pacific drug cartel leader who Oliver Queen encounters during his years marooned on a remote island.

Hu also played Lady Deathstrike in X2: X-Men United, which is kinda sorta funny since the telltale mask of Green Arrow adversary Deathstroke is glimpsed on the aforementioned remote island in the pilot.

In other casting news, Deadline reports that Ed Asner has officially booked his return to Hawaii Five-0, where this spring he reprised the role of August March, a smuggler he first played on the original H50 back in 1975. August will resurface in Episode 2 of Season 3, which kicks off Sept. 24.
