Fresh off of A Gifted Man‘s season (series?) finale, Rachelle Lefevre has been tapped star in the CBS drama pilot Applebaum.
Also among the latest pilot castings: a Life Unexpected alum returns to The CW, a Little Liars lady moves to Americana and more.
Based on the Mommy Track Mysteries book series, Applebaum centers on Juliet Applebaum, a former public defender (Lefevre) who becomes a private investigator to fight off the boredom that can come along with being a stay-at-home mom.
The gig is in second position (see definition) to Gifted Man, which essentially means CBS will be forced to recast Lefevre’s role should the latter get a second season order.
In other pilot news from our sister site Deadline:
• Just call him Little Mr. Big! Life Unexpected grad Austin Butler — who currently recurs on Switched at Birth — will star opposite AnnaSophia Robb in The CW’s Sex and the City prequel, The Carrie Diaries, as Sebastian Kydd, a brooding heartthrob whose presence at Carrie’s school shakes things up.
• Sarah Wright — who recently recurred on Parks and Recreation as Jerry’s daughter Millicent — has landed the lead in the NBC comedy from Hilary Winston (Community/Happy Endings). The untitled project revolves around Agnes (Wright), a shy, focused woman who, after being dumped by her fiancé, leans on her co-workers — two of whom will be played by the previously cast Mena Suvari (American Horror Story) and Kyle Howard (My Boys).
• Annabeth Gish (Pretty Little Liars/The West Wing) will play the mother of Ashley Greene’s budding fashion star, Alice, in ABC’s opulent family soap, Americana.
