Eliza Coupe Previews Happy Endings' Xmas Disaster and 'The Best Scene We've Ever Shot'

“When you accidentally give something to someone and you want it back, the best thing you can do is steal it, right?”

That’s Happy Endings‘ Eliza Coupe pondering the moral dilemma at the center of Wednesday’s holiday-centric installment (ABC, 9:30/8:30c), which finds poor, neurotic Jane mistakenly handing out her hubby Brad’s hard-earned Turks and Caicos vacation fund to the housekeeper as a bonus.

The result: hilarity.

“Oh god, it’s crazy,” Coupe tells TVLine. “It would make way too much sense to admit that you’ve made a mistake — that’s something Jane would never do.” The alternative? “She gets into some real smart thieving tactics — there is some Christmas-themed stealing involved this week.”

Alas, Brad and Jane don’t make it on their tropical holiday, but the group does their best to bring paradise to Chicago. “Of course — like with any group of friends — we end up with an apartment filled with sand,” she teases. “I mean, who doesn’t decide to throw a beach party inside in the middle of winter?”

Happy Endings Exclusive: Michael McKean Cast as Dave’s Dad (And There’s an Added Twist)!

Full disclosure: Coupe says the faux-getaway “is actually for Dave,” but in the end they all decide to turn it into a “two-in-one deal.”

Brad and Jane’s holiday hijinks will carry into next year with a wacky Valentine’s Day installment. “We just finished shooting that episode and it was insane,” Coupe tells us. “It’s going to be a great, great one. Really cute. Jane actually gets to be the straight person [this time] to Brad’s insanity.

“Damon does a scene that I would have to say, hands down, is the best scene we’ve ever shot — and I’m not even in it!” she continues with a laugh. “It’s one of the most brilliant things I’ve ever seen, and Damon Wayans Jr. should be nominated for an Emmy. Brilliant.”
