The TVLine-Up: TV Worth Watching This Friday

With the Fall TV season and its shiny, new wares still rolling out, we’re continuing to go daily with The TVLine-Up. (For those who must plan ahead, here is our complete Fall TV premieres calendar, plus I summarize what’s coming up the next day.) But right now, here’s what’s happening on….

5 pm MLB Playoffs (TBS) | Post-season play kicks off with the AL wild card Tampa Bay Rays visiting the Texas Rangers, followed by the Detroit Tigers braving the Bronx to take on my Yankees.

8 pm Nikita (The CW) | Nikita and Michael’s search for the mastermind of a defunct Division program known as P9 finds them crossing paths with Owen (guest star Devon Sawa), and they realize they share the same target: a doctor who also created the Regimen.

8 pm A Gifted Man (CBS) | In Week 2 of this supernatural-tinged medical drama, Rhys Coiro (Entourage) and Gbenga Akinnagbe (Good Wife‘s Pastor Isaiah) guest star as doctors while Tony Award nominee Raul Esparza plays a former boyfriend of the late Anna’s.

9 pm Hugh Laurie: Let Them Talk – A Celebration of New Orleans Blues (PBS) | This Great Performances installment finds the multi-talented House star sharing a “very personal journey” into the heart and soul of the blues and jazz that grew out of New Orleans at the beginning of the last century. Laurie sings a selection of tunes, accompanying himself on piano or guitar and backed by legends such as Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas and Sir Tom Jones.

9 pm Supernatural (The CW) | The broken wall in Sam’s head subjects him to hallucinations, Bobby worries that Dean will crumble from the stress of seeking Cas and keeping his eye on Sam, and Castiel struggles with the burdens of his new job. (Oh, cry me a River Styx.)

9 pm Fringe (Fox) | John Pyper-Ferguson (Brothers & Sisters) plays an expert on serial killers who is recruited by the Olivias (Olivi?) to track down his alt-self, who on the Other Side has been on quite the rampage. Peter, meanwhile, finds a new way to tap on Walter’s shoulder — for better or for worse.

9 pm CSI: NY (CBS) | The death of an awkward teen leads the CSIs to a sexy punk rocker (played by Hellcats hottie Aly Michalka and her abs).

9 pm Jessie (Disney) | Series premiere: Debby Ryan (The Suite Life on Deck) stars as a Texas lass who moves to NYC, where she becomes a nanny to a famous movie director and his ex-supermodel wife.

10 pm Haven (Syfy) | Season 2 finale: When the dead rise up, Audrey, Nathan and Duke are walloped with shocking revelations and face a battle that threatens to split the town forever. Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica) guest stars.

10 pm Blue Bloods (CBS) | Danny is put on modified assignment and subject to an Internal Affairs investigation when he shoots a fellow cop who failed to identify himself quickly enough.
