NBC's New Project Runway-Esque Reality Series Taps Jessica Simpson as Mentor

Showbiz multi-hyphenate Jessica Simpson has landed herself a(nother) cushy reality gig on NBC’s upcoming competition series, Fashion Star.

Simpson will channel her inner-Tim Gunn on Star, NBC’s answer to Project Runway, serving as a “celebrity mentor” to a group of 14 designers competing to both create and successfully launch their own fashion lines.

“NBC is delighted to work with singer, designer, actress and pop culture icon Jessica Simpson,” says NBC Universal’s Executive Vice President of Alternative Programming, Paul Telegdy. “With an almost billion dollar lifestyle brand under her belt she is sure to be an excellent mentor to our up-and-coming designers.”

Adds onetime NBC co-chairman Ben Silverman, now CEO and founder of Star‘s studio Electus, “Jessica Simpson has built an incredible fashion business and is a perfect mentor to our aspiring designers. She will complement the buyers, Elle Macpherson and amazing format.”

The aforementioned supermodel will host and exec-produce the series, which has yet to set a launch date.
