What to Watch Tonight

Red Band Society Bows, AGT and Extant Finales and More

  • AOL Originals
Making a Scene With James Franco

Series premiere, first three episodes: In this new series, the titular multi-hyphenate collaborates with his creative team and fellow actors to produce one-of-a-kind reimaginings of classic big-screen moments.

  • NBC
    America's Got Talent

Season finale, two hours: Guests/performers include Pitbull (of course), Travis Barker, Jennifer Hudson, Lenny Kravitz, Cyndi Lauper, Train and a surprise someone to assist Mat Franco with a special illusion.

  • Fox
    Hell's Kitchen

The team that most successfully completes the recipes printed on the back of their jackets will win a day flying across Venice Beach.

  • CBS
    Big Brother

Who is next to be evicted, and thus not make the Final 3? (Hey, TVLine’s Rebecca Iannucci, we’re asking you!)

  • Fox
    Red Band Society

Series premiere: Fronted by Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer, this Fault in Our Stars-meets-Breakfast Club dramedy follows a group of young patients/unlikely friends, and the adults who mentor them, during their time at a shiny L.A. hospital. Manipulative, but good.

  • TNT

In the aftermath of last week’s shootout, the mysterious Verax Corporation sends hitmen to retrieve Kyle Dobson, forcing Martin to take his prisoner on the run.

  • OWN
Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse

Fall premiere: Marcus accidentally takes canine fertility pills (ooh, that sounds ruff); Angela can only handle so much sex.

  • The CW
    The 100

Repeat to Revisit: With an eye on the Season 2 premiere (airing Oct. 22), flash back to the dystopian drama’s game-changing freshman finale.

  • NBC
    The Mysteries of Laura

Special preview: Debra Messing stars as a cop who struggles to balance her job with her home life, which includes bratty twins and a soon-to-be-ex (Josh Lucas). Watch for the early scene where Laura takes a highly risky shot while not looking anywhere near her gun’s sight! Really, the #WCW promos are the best thing about this quite “meh” show (which starting next Wednesday airs at 8/7c.)

  • CBS

Season finale: Molly returns to space in a bid to protect Earth from the deadly spores, while John discovers that Odin’s plan has put Ethan in terrible danger.

NEXT WEDNESDAY: ABC’s The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, black-ish and Nashville, CBS’ Survivor, NBC’s Law & Order: SVU and Chicago P.D. and Comedy Central’s South Park and Key & Peele all premiere, while Big Brother airs its finale.

  2. Dean says:

Definitely mysteries of laura. Love Debra Messing.

  3. Moment says:

    Hells Kitchen.

Would be interested in The Mysteries of Laura but its in NBCs Wednesday 8pm deathslot from next week onwards and I can’t see it ever getting renewed.

    • Tran says:

The 8 p.m. Wednesday night time slot has been a “black hole” for NBC and I still hope that sometime in the near future, that “curse” will be broken for the Peacock network.

      • Moment says:

They need to premiere a strong show in that timeslot. I believe Revolution failed last season because of the competition and the writing. If they can get something hyped in this slot they have a good chance of doing well.

Otherwise It’ll probably just be a case of new shows premiering there and being canceled or pulled by the following May.

  4. Joey Padron says:

Red Band Society, saw the pilot episode online early excited to see it again. It was so good. Franklin & Bash, The League encore, and Jimmy Fallon.

  5. Maryann says:

Will watch The 100 season finale, which I missed when it originally aired.
Would check out Mysteries of Laura if the Evil Twins were not so far over the top. As it is, I have seen far more than I ever wanted to of them, just in the previews.

  6. Cideric Rhyes says:

Red Band Society is total pro-illegal immigration pandering garbage. As someone from an immigrant family it really pisses me off the way the media portrays the issue in an incredible one-sided manner.

  7. wrstlgirl says:

Big Brother live. DVR Legends, Red Band Society, Extant and The Bridge

  8. jag says:

red band for sure. The pilot has heart and depth.

  9. TexMike says:

    The Roosevelts and The Bridge

  10. Lizo says:

So when it says “special preview” does that mean that the pilot airs again next week?

    • Moment says:

If it does, it won’t be airing again on Wednesday. Next Wednesday is Episode 2 at 8pm, and then Law and Order at 9pm, and Chicago PD at 10pm.

    • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

Nope, a new episode next Wednesday at 8/7c.

      • liz says:

okay. thanks Matt! So by “sneak/special preview” they really just mean ‘series premier’. That’s nice for clarity. :P

        • Moment says:

It’s actually a special time premiere for NBC. That’s how I’ve seen it listed on a few places.

          • herman1959 says:

OK, “special premiere” is a sneaky way getting the show out before the competition.

          • Moment says:

They’re only doing it because they think the finale of Americas Got Talent would give the show a good chance of succeeding. It didn’t work for Believe after it was moved from the Monday 10pm slot(One time thing) to Sunday.

  11. Eric says:

Please everyone, watch Red Band Society tonight! It’s truly such a great show, and I want it to do well.

  12. scb says:

Watched Red Band Society when Fox released to for a limited time on hulu. It’s a good show but I’ll probably only watch it On Demand since I don’t have a DVR.

  13. Steven says:

Already watched Red Band Society online. It was ok, but the purgatory scenes were so over the top. Will give Mysteries of Laura a chance, but I’m going in with extremely low expectations.

  14. Carl says:

    red band
    Top chef duels

  15. KC says:

Hells’ Kitchen and Mysteries of Laura for sure.

No thanks AT ALL to Red Band Society. I don’t need to see that on my TV – too depressing. I’m sure some will stay away as it hits way too close to home for them. I tune into my TV to escape from reality for a while

  16. dman6015 says:

  17. Jax&Juice's Girl says:

The Bridge (when is the finale by the way?)
    Big Brother
Hell’s Kitchen (pretty much will back and forth btw BB)

  18. herman1959 says:

I’ll be watching the finale of Extant, but I’ll also try out The Mysteries of Laura on Hulu. If I don’t like it, it’s no biggie since I don’t watch ANYTHING at 8:00 on a weeknight. What I’m really looking forward to is next week – the season premiere of all of my favorites.

  19. Brigid says:

Red Band Society for sure! Extant will go to DVR with the other 9 episodes I can’t bring myself to watch. Debra Messing…no thanks! People really watch Hells Kitchen and Big Brother? Yikes

  20. LAwoman says:

    The Bridge
    The League

  21. jm says:

Please, please if you have someone who can translate properly spanish to english at least he should also speak understundable spanish… And can someone teach David how to pronounce the boy´s name… i was shock when i saw “Palacios”.

  22. torimelching says:

    The League

  23. Steve says:

    The Bridge
    Franklin & Bash
    The Mysteries of Laura
    Red Band Society

  24. Gus T.T. Showbiz says:

Nothing against any of the cast or the people who made the show but, there is no way that I am going to watch a show about a bunch of terminally ill kids. Either they are killing off kids on the show constantly which would be the most depressing thing ever or they aren’t and they show isn’t realistic at all. For those that like it I hope that the show does well but either way, count me out.
