The 2012 Emmy nominations were, as per usual, a mixed bag. For every inspired nod (congrats, Max Greenfield!) there was one that had me scratching the skin off my scalp (Kathy Bates over Katey Sagal?!). Emmy Nominations 2012: American Horror Story, Mad Men and Modern Family Lead the Pack

Nominations for the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced early Thursday morning by Scandal star Kerry Washington and this year’s Emmys host, Jimmy Kimmel — in his pajamas — and FX’s American Horror Story and AMC’s Mad Men led the pack with 17 total nods each.

PBS’ Downton Abbey and History’s Hatfields & McCoys followed with 16 apiece, while Modern Family was the most-nommed scripted comedy series, with 14. READ FULL LIST & SOUND OFF!

Parks and Recreation is nothing if not a place to find a vast array of loveable, quirky characters. Yet that was not always the case with Aziz Ansari‘s Tom Haverford. The Pawnee Parks Department’s erstwhile second-in-command was, in the NBC comedy’s debut season, actually a bit subversive. In the past two seasons, AMC’s The Killing may sometimes have zigged where it should have zagged, but fans of the polarizing drama have always been able to rely on one constant: Joel Kinnaman‘s enthralling performance. As the rough-and-tumble Detective Stephen Holder, the 32-year-old Swedish-American actor brings a unique vulnerability and likability to a part that could easily have been a stereotypical, one-note member of Seattle’s finest.  READ MORE
