Just as TV can exceed our expectations by, say, taking what felt like the umpteenth couples comedy and parlaying it into wonderful, weekly Happy Endings, gripping us tight with Homeland drama or reviving the primetime sudser with a delicious serving of Revenge, small screen fare can also let us down.

When you think back on the year’s standout small-screen performances, no doubt you’ll think of Madeleine Stowe’s turn as a hot, hot piece of ice on Revenge. Ratings: Despite Dwindling Housewives, ABC's Pan Am Has Solid Take-Off

ABC’s Pan Am flew some very friendly skies in its Sunday night premiere, this despite leading out of Desperate Housewives‘ lowest-rated season opener ever.
