SEASON 2 TEASE | "She’s still dealing with the fact that her mom wrote the letter," previews Ashley Rickards. "Did it come from a good place? Why did her mother write that letter? How does she process it?" Meanwhile, things are better — but not necessarily less complicated — in the romance department. Newly minted couple Jake and Jenna are "in a great place. It’s a very healthy relationship. He’s not keeping her a secret." But there’s still that hottie elephant in the room. "There’s plenty of Jenna and Matty stuff coming up," Rickards assures us. "It’s more interesting and multifaceted to see them in this new relationship and struggling to be in that friends zone." Then there’s the question of whether to tell Jake the truth, and what happens if they do. "There’s just a lot at stake," adds Rickards.
MOST AWKWARD MOMENT | "Something that’s said over the loudspeaker that gets the whole school talking," teases the actress.
TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | "Right now, for personal reasons, I’m Team Jake because I was really, really under the weather one day and Brett Davern came and made me soup," explains Rickards. "If I had to choose solely between the characters – by the way, Beau [Mirchoff] was filming, and I’m sure he would have come and made me soup too – I’d be Team Switzerland."
SEASON 2 TEASE | Although Jake and Jenna "are very much together" when the new season picks up two weeks after the events of last summer’s finale, "their relationship is nothing if not complicated," says Brett Davern. For starters, "Matty’s still lurking around, so we’re going to see how Jake deals with Matty. Does he find about Jenna and Matty, and how does he deal with that? It’s really fun to get to explore where Jake goes not only in terms of his relationship with Jenna, but his relationship with Matty — and how Matty feels towards Jake, too."
MOST AWKWARD MOMENT | "There’s some with Jenna dealing with how far to take their relationship, emotionally and physically," reveals Davern. "Of course, we all remember Jake’s famous be-hymen from last year. So he gets himself into a few more situations – not quite as intense as that, but definitely awkward."
TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | "I’m definitely Team Jake," Davern declares. "Unless Matty gets his act together. As far as the audience is concerned with what they’ve seen so far, how can you not be Team Jake? Any guy who wants to keep her in the dark and make out with her behind the dumpster, what is that about? As far as I am in my life, that’s not right. She’s a lady. She should be treated like a lady. So if Jake’s going to treat her like a lady, I’m going to be Team Jake. But if Matty gets his act together, I could flip-flop."
SEASON 2 TEASE | After losing Jenna to his pal, Matty will be feeling a little low. "He’s not in a good place," attests Beau Mirchoff. "On the outside, he’s fine, throws a party and everything’s great. But deep down, he doesn't know how to deal with it. This is the first time he’s been rejected." Making matters worse is that he can’t even confide in his best friend. "That’s a big problem," he continues. "The first few episodes of Season 2 [are about] Matty trying to make everything OK when he’s not OK inside, and Jake starts to see, like, ‘What’s up with Matty? He’s acting kind of different.’" Perhaps he’s trying to decide how to get his girl back…? "It’s definitely a decision Matty struggles with," teases Mirchoff. "Part of him wants to fight for her, and then the other side just wants to curl up in a ball and let everything happen the way it’s happening."
MOST AWKWARD MOMENT | Nothing says uncomfortable like being a third wheel. "The stuff with Jenna and Jake – that’s all awkward," says Mirchoff. "There’s one episode where I’m tagging along and follow them around."
TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | Prepare to be shocked because Mirchoff is not cheering for himself! "At this point, Jake is definitely the right choice for her. As Season 2 progresses and Matty changes and matures and is more honest with his feelings and upfront about things, maybe I’ll be Team Matty."
SEASON 2 TEASE | There will be big ramifications for Lacey, who wrote the devastating carefrontation letter to Jenna. For one, it’ll leave mother and daughter "in a pretty precarious place," says Nikki Deloach. "You see Jenna have to recover from the letter, and Lacey too. How long will it take Jenna? How will she tell Lacey? Does she tell Lacey? How does Lacey find out that Jenna knows? All of those things are going to be revealed." As the two attempt to repair their broken bond, "you’re going to find out a lot about why Lacey is the way she is."
MOST AWKWARD MOMENT | It’s not super funny, but "dealing with the letter is pretty awkward," says Deloach. "Imagine if you’re a mom and you write that letter to your daughter. … To be found out puts you in a very awkward situation not just with your daughter, but with your husband."
TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | "Definitely Team Jake has treated my daughter a lot better than Team Matty," muses the actress. "But it’s too soon to tell where my heart as Lacey lies when it comes to those two boys." As for Deloach’s personal preference, "Brett Davern gave me a really sweet compliment this morning, so I’m going to go with Team Jake," she answers with a laugh.
SEASON 2 TEASE | Jenna’s dad is "blissfully oblivious" about the carefrontation letter at the start of Season 2, but he’ll soon clue into the "growing tension between Lacey and Jenna," shares Mike Faiola. "Something is awry in the household, but he’s not totally sure what it is." As the truth is unraveled, "you can sense that Kevin is upset, but you have no idea what his course of action is going to be or how that’s going to impact the household and Jenna and his relationship with Lacey."
MOST AWKWARD MOMENT | Faiola is keeping mum on Kevin’s truly embarrassing moment since it would give too much away. In the meantime, he agrees with his on-screen wife that "finding out that [Lacey] had written such an emotionally torturous, sadistic letter to his daughter" is pretty darn uncomfortable.
TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | "I’m Team Both of Them," he says. "I like that you have these drastically different characters that each have something to offer the relationship."
SEASON 2 TEASE | Prepare for the wrath of Sadie. "She’s got a new lot on life," previews Molly Tarlov. "She’s really ready to tear it up." And there’s one person in particular who needs to watch out. "Sadie will be opening her rage up to some other people …. I don’t know if it takes any [heat] off Jenna, but it definitely puts some in some other places. She never really liked Tamara very much."
MOST AWKWARD MOMENT | "Sadie gets caught in a place that I don’t think Sadie would ever want to be caught in – a physical place, not an emotional state," teases Tarlov.
TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | First a disclaimer: "I love Brett Davern," says the actress. "It’s nothing to do with him. It’s just, I don’t know, that Matty… I just probably need to be a little more mature and then I’ll be Team Jake. For now, it’s Team Matty all the way. And I have to say, Jake cheated on his girlfriend last season with Jenna."
SEASON 2 TEASE | Jake’s ex is keeping her backbone and “still standing up to Sadie," reveals Greer Grammer, which doesn’t make her former pal very happy. "[Sadie] gets sick of it. I think at first, she thought it was kind of OK, and she was like, ‘Ha-ha, this is funny. But whatever. She’ll come around.’ And when Lissa finally doesn’t, [Sadie goes], ‘Can you stop it? I’ve forgiven you for slamming the door in my face, so can you just get over it?’"
MOST AWKWARD MOMENT | "Probably taking Jenna to church camp" after Lissa sees her ex’s new girlfriend in the House of Christ, shares Grammer. "She has a lot of awkward moments there where she talks about her and Jake’s relationship, and it gets awkward for Jenna because she’s like, ‘Oh, great, here’s this information that I’m just now finding out.’"
TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | "Team Matty. All the way! I’m such a Team Matty fan. I’m kind of biased because last season, clearly Jake was my boyfriend so I didn’t want her to break up with him. I get so hurt and sick, I can’t even watch the episode where he kisses [Jenna] in Episode 5 because he was cheating on [Lissa]. But I love Beau [Mirchoff]. … And I like Matty. I like the bad boy. It’s probably bad, but I do. And he cares about her. You can tell. I just root for them to be together so much."
SEASON 2 TEASE | "I rekindle my relationship with Ricky Schwartz," previews Jillian Rose Reed. "So at the beginning of Season 2, the drama pretty much starts for me right away with Ricky. There’s just crazy heartbreak all over." And of course, she’s still creating new words. Her latest ingenious mash-up: Adorawhorible.
MOST AWKWARD MOMENT | "There are a few different awkward things that I can’t give away," teases the actress. "Not only is it awkward, but super-embarrassing for a couple of episodes for Tamara. Her one awkward moment has a lasting effect."
TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | Neither! "I’m Team Jatty," replies Reed. "I wish Jenna could be with both of them and make that work somehow." Maybe on premium cable….
SEASON 2 TEASE | Keep an eye out for the hilarious Episode 2, which introduces a new high school clique known as "the Asian Mafia," previews Jessica Lu. "Ming thinks they’re so cool. They really are magic. Asians are magic! But you start to wonder, are they good for her? Do they have her best interest at heart?"
MOST AWKWARD MOMENT | "Getting picked up during the [New Year’s Eve] countdown," shares Lu. While everyone else at the party is celebrating, Ming doesn’t even get to stay for the big moment. "I’m in the car with my dad for New Year’s."
TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | Lu can’t bring herself to choose a side – "It’s so tough…. I’m more Team Jatty," she says – but Ming is definitely Team Matty. "He touched her hair!" she explains. "That episode where he shows Ming how to do the hair, how to do the flip? She’s just done. She’s like, ‘Jake, you’re a great guy, but I’m sorry. Matty touched my soul.’"
SEASON 2 TEASE | "She gets to experiment with a little more power, throwing that around in the right or the wrong way [at school]," teases Desi Lydic. While Val usually gives out the worst advice with the best of intentions, "There’s one part in particular this season where I feel Valerie finally gets it right. She stands up for what she believes in."
MOST AWKWARD MOMENT | Does every breathing moment count? "Valerie is always in the most awkward situations, but she has no idea how awkward she is," says Lydic. "She thinks she’s like a supermodel."
TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | "I’m really split," admits Lydic, earning a place in our hearts forever with a Beverly Hills, 90210 reference. "I was always a Brandon Walsh kind of gal. The good guy, the class president… He just seemed like a really solid guy. But now, looking back, I kind of go, ‘Dylan McKay wasn’t so bad.’ Maybe high school would have been a good time to have a little Dylan McKay in my life. So I don’t know. Now I’m a little bit torn." We totally get it.
SEASON 2 TEASE | Once a cheater, always a cheater? "He always has what’s the best in front of him, but then he always wants to try and see how much more he can get," explains Matthew Fahey. "He kind of screws himself over with that. He’s a good guy, but he makes poor choices. Ricky always has something up his sleeve."
MOST AWKWARD MOMENT | "There are a lot of awkward things that happen to Ricky," Fahey hints. "Everybody is just going to have to watch. Everybody’s going to be really surprised."
TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | Although he "did feel bad for Matty at the end of the [last] season," Fahey declares himself "Team Jake, because he’s the nicer guy."
