Upfronts 2017 Recap

Upfronts 2017: The Best, Worst and Wackiest Moments in Photos

Though the broadcast networks have (thankfully) gotten Hamilton parodies out of their collective system, live music was still the name of the game at this year’s Upfronts — and most of them actually made sense!

Jennifer Hudson, for example, was an obvious choice to open NBC’s presentation in song, given that she recently signed on to coach The VoiceAnd of course The CW would ask the main trio from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend to serenade advertisers with a number from the Emmy Award-winning series.

But did we really need Seth MacFarlane crooning about Fox’s metrics? Or Lea Michele — who stars in a new, non-musical comedy on ABC belting out an unfamiliar track off her new album?

These are just a few questions we’re posing as we reflect on what each network — NBC, Fox, ABC, CBS and The CW — brought to the table stage this week, a four-day whirlwind that included major reunions (Will & GraceRoseanne!), bittersweet departures (Scandal!) and Charlie Rose rapping about his new lease on life after a serious brush with death. (Like we said, it was a crazy week.)

The Rosanne cast appearance was very awkward and super cringeworthy.

“We’ll Never Have Problems Again” is one of my favorite songs that CEG has every done. I listened to it for days after it came out.
