Daveed Diggs Snowpiercer

Snowpiercer: Hamilton's Daveed Diggs to Star in TNT Pilot Based on 2013 Film

One of Hamilton‘s founding fathers is set to explore a bleak future.

Tony winner Daveed Diggs has been cast in TNT’s Snowpiercer pilot based on the 2013 Chris Evans film of the same name, it was announced Wednesday.

Per the basic cabler, Snowpiercer is “a futuristic thriller set seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland,” where “class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival” plague the last “remnants of humanity.” Those who did survive are said to inhabit a “gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe.”

Diggs will play Layton Well, “a prisoner barely surviving the harsh conditions in the tail end of the train” — so, similar to Evans’ big-screen character, but not the same.

TNT has also announced that Doctor Strange‘s Scott Derrickson will direct the Snowpiercer pilot, which is being written by Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles boss Josh Friedman.

After exiting Hamilton, Diggs set his sights on TV, joining the ABC comedy black-ish in a recurring role last fall, as well as the Netflix drama The Get Down. He also serves as an executive producer on the forthcoming ABC comedy The Mayor, which will air Tuesdays this fall behind the relocated black-ish.

Does Diggs’ casting pique your interest in TNT’s adaptation of Snowpiercer?

Good for this actor and fans of that movie. I like Diggs, but I hated this movie. Watching it felt like a chore and I felt cheated at the end. Chris Evans, whom I love to watch, couldn’t even save it for me. So my answer to this question is “no.”

  3. This is exciting casting.
Loved this movie. Can’t wait to see the plot fleshed out on the small screen.

The headline makes it look like the name of the show is “Snowpiercer: Hamilton”
