James Corden, Anne Hathaway Perform 5-Minute Rom-Com Musical — Watch

James Corden won’t be hosting the Tony Awards this year — but his newest Late Late Show musical just might be worthy of a nomination.

On Thursday’s episode of the talker, Corden and guest Anne Hathaway staged an entire romantic comedy musical in just five-and-a-half minutes, working in songs by Selena Gomez, Jason Mraz and Al Green, among others.

Along the way, Corden and Hathaway’s characters go from a meet cute in the elevator, to sharing an apartment, to… well, we won’t spoil what happens in the middle. (But Hathaway’s drunken performance of “All By Myself” is award-worthy in its own right.)

Press PLAY on the video above to see Corden and Hathaway’s musical, then hit the comments and tell us what you thought!

Love it !! James always makes you smile.

One thing that totally irks me about RomComs is that it’s always the man who has to make the big gesture in the end, even when it was HER who screwed up the relationship in the previous act.

Just look at how (I’m going to use the actors’ names) Julia Roberts actually treated Hugh Grant in Notting Hill, constantly accusing him of things. Or Eva Mendes ruining Will Smith’s career in Hitch because she had lousy intel. Or in amovie where both people went into the relationship based on a bet (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days), it’s still him who has to go after her.

Not to mention horrible movies like 40 Days and 40 Nights where he gets raped(!) and she’s mad at him for it and he has to beg to get her back. Ugh.

What about the reverse as in Four Weddings and a Funeral when Andie realizes she’s made a big mistake and comes crawling back to Hugh? Or in Must Love Dogs when Diane Lane jumps in the water to swim to John Cusack, The Holiday when Cameron Diaz jumps out of the town car and goes running back to Jude Law?

      • DJ Doena says:

Have to admit, I didn’t see any of those. It just came to my mind becaause even it this skit here it is James who has to run after Anne in the end.

        • Cory says:

Yeah, but, James’ character cheated on Anne’s in that skit. At least, that was what they were implying by the song. So I would hope she didn’t chase after him after he did that.

This is 100x better than Anna Kendrick. Wonder if Emma Stone or maybe Brie Larson is up for it.

  4. RichieS says:

To the poster above complaining about James chasing after Anne … do you realize how many of us would chase a woman who looks like Anne Hathaway if there was even a hint of a chance at a relationship?
