Ratings: This Is Us Hits Highs, Flash Resumes Normal Speeds

NBC’s This Is Us celebrated Christmas on Tuesday with 10.95 million total viewers and a 2.8 rating (per finals), ticking up 4 percent and a tenth to deliver its largest audience of the season while tying its demo high.

Bookending the hit freshman drama, The Voice (10.2 mil/1.9) and Chicago Fire (7.8 mil/1.7) were steady.

Elsewhere in the lands of ratings….

THE CW | The Flash (3.1 mil/1.2) slowed 25 and 20 percent from its much ballyhooed crossover episode, returning to normal levels. No Tomorrow (800K/0.3) was flat.

CBS | NCIS (14.7 mil/1.8) ticked down, while Bull (11.7 mil/1.5) and New Orleans (9.4 mil/1.2) were steady.

ABC | The Middle (6.1 mil/1.4), Fresh Off the Boat (3.9 mil/1.1) and Real O’Neals (3.1 mil/0.8) each slipped two tenths, American Housewife (5.1 mil/1.4) dipped one tenth and SHIELD (2.37 mil/0.7) ticked down to match its series lows.

FOX | B99 (2.3 mil/1.0), New Girl (1.7 mil/0.8) and Scream Queens (118 mil/0.5) were all steady.

i know I’m likely in the minority here but last night’s episode was probably my least favorite of “This is Us”. Maybe it’s because I’m not really attached to Toby (not a fan of his character) so I wouldn’t really miss him if he’s gone. I wasn’t crazy about Randall’s storyline with a coworker that up until tonight we’ve never even met. It just felt a little flat to me overall. Not bad, just not as good as I was hoping for the Christmas episode.

You aren’t alone. I thought there were too many new characters that we were supposed to care about. I liked the episode overall, but I didn’t care about Randall’s co-worker and I thought the introduction of William’s boyfriend was done as shocking plot twist instead of happening organically. I also thought the end cliffhanger was too soapy for this show. The Thanksgiving episode was much better as was last week’s episode.

Agreed! I’m gay and didn’t care either for the introduction of William’s former bf. And the scene with Randall’s co-worker didn’t move me at all because I didn’t know who the guy was up to that point.

    • Couldn’t agree more. TIU is a great show but I didn’t care to see Toby, Randall’s coworker and William’s boyfriend taking up all this screen time. I was hoping for a Christmas episode with the family and here come all these non-factors lol.
Okay, Toby’s an important character but I thought we were finally rid of him when he and Kate broke up. At least they spared us “empty shell” Olivia…
That being said, a so-so episode of TIU is still very good TV and I was super happy to see Dr. Katowsky again. The scene where mini Randall gives him the snow globe had me all choked up. I also really like the scene where Big Randall was being petulant about his boat. He and Beth are perfect together. She knows him so well :)

I enjoyed it fine, but it was my least favorite episode of the season. I was really hoping we’d see more of Randall and Rebecca dealing with the fall out of 36 years of her knowing William and not telling him they just sort of dropped it.

Again it wasn’t bad it just wasn’t great it was eh.

From the beginning I started to like Toby on This Is Us but now I’m beginning to hate him not to mention his hilarious one liners. #sorrynotsorry

I really enjoy the core cast of This Is Us. I think they are all fantastic. I do agree that last night almost felt a little like “we have great guest stars but don’t know how to include them all” and so some scenes seemed a little random just to give these “guest stars” screen time. I think it would have been better to see Randall and Andy interact prior to their scene together.

I do think it was still a great episode and love how they tie in the flashbacks with present day.

How can this article say Fox was steady? The CW at the 8 pm time slot beat Fox how is that steady? WOW!?

Great for This is Us. I hope they can sustain these numbers when they come back. Ouch for ABC especially The Middle. And I guess FOX can claim a small victory when their Tues shows are steady
