Entertainers, start your engines: Cedric the Entertainer has signed on to co-create and star in a new car-themed sitcom for CBS.
The half-hour comedy, tentatively titled Tony Take the Wheel, stars Cedric the Entertainer as one of a pair of brothers who butt heads when one of the brothers hires his teen nephew to work in his custom car shop. According to our sister site Variety, Seinfeld writer Spike Feresten will co-create along with Cedric the Entertainer.
The project is still in early development at CBS, but the network has done well lately by hiring familiar faces to lead its sitcoms. This fall alone, Kevin James’ Kevin Can Wait, Matt LeBlanc’s Man With a Plan and Joel McHale’s The Great Indoors all got picked up for full seasons.
Cedric the Entertainer just wrapped up a five-season run on TV Land’s The Soul Man earlier this year. But he’s been a TV regular for two decades now, ever since he co-starred alongside his fellow King of Comedy Steve Harvey on The WB’s The Steve Harvey Show from 1996 to 2002.
