Oscars Host Jimmy Kimmel

Jimmy Kimmel to Host Oscars in 2017

Assuming Jimmy Kimmel bought his own tux to host this year’s Emmys, its cost is amortizing already.

ABC’s late-night frontman has been tapped to lord over the 89th Academy Awards, which will air on the Alphabet network on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017.

Kimmel confirmed the gig on Twitter, hours after THR first reported rumblings about this year’s Oscars host:

In recent years, the Oscars have been hosted by Seth MacFarlane, Ellen DeGeneres, Neil Patrick Harris and, this past winter, Chris Rock.

In addition to twice hosting the Primetime Emmy Awards, Kimmel has also hosted the American Music Awards and the ESPYs.

  1. Kevin says:

Kimmel hosting the Oscars? That’s something.

  2. Piers says:

That just made top 10 on my MUST MISS list. Haven’t liked him in anything except Win Ben Stein’s Money.

  3. Shar says:

    Wrong Jimmy.

  4. ekolint48 says:

He did a great job at the Emmys. Looking forward to what he has in store for the Academy Awards February.

  5. dan says:

I don’t mind Kimmel, but I didn’t like him as Emmy host. I’m willing give him a try at the Oscars!

    • Collette says:

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems the Oscars have lost the class and elegance they used to have. Kimmel is like a trucker reluctantly wearing a tux at his cousin’s wedding, no class or glamour at all. I’d like to see a return to a host with some savoir faire.

  6. Gerald says:

He’s my second favorite Night Time host after Seth Meyers. So I’ll take it. Does that mean we won’t get a post Oscar episode of Jimmy Kimmel?

  7. Ron says:

I might have to pass. He’s, like, my third favorite Jimmy late-night host, behind Fallon at #2 and Corden (if we want to refer to, for purposes of this comment, Corden as Jimmy rather than James) at #1. I honestly have not cared for Kimmel going all the way back to the “Win Ben Stein’s Money” days.

  8. Brock Hard says:

I’m glad people are finally over Neil Patrick Harris. Every hosting gig, people were like “get NPH”… until he actually hosted something and tanked.

  9. ezeeche says:

    Why not Trevor Noah?

  10. Gwen says:

Well, that’s too bad. I don’t find him as entertaining as he thinks he is.
