Ratings: Once Upon a Time Ticks Down Entering 3-Month Hiatus

The winter finale of ABC’s Once Upon a Time on Sunday night drew 3.25 million total viewers and a 0.9 rating, ticking down on both counts to its second-smallest audience ever while matching its all-time demo low. TVLine readers gave the episode an average grade of “B-.”

Leading out of that, Secrets and Lies‘ two-hour sophomore finale averaged 3.4 mil and a 0.7 (with an “A-” grade), up 21 percent in viewers while steady in the demo. Its second hour drew 3.5 mil, its third-largest Season 2 audience.

Over on NBC, Sunday Night Football (14.8 mil/5.1) slipped 13 percent from last week’s fast nationals.

Among Sunday’s scripted fare, Fox’s The Simpsons (5.9 mil/2.4) drew the highest rating, while CBS’ Bull repeat (7.5 mil/0.9) delivered the largest audience.

Man, how television has changed. Even shows back on The WB, like Buffy, Roswell, and Charmed had better ratings…and even then, such ratings were considered “ehhhhhhh not great but okay but let’s cancel Roswell anyways, for example.” Poor ABC. These ratings are so low but the norm these days…nuts!

Gone are the days of LOST’s mammoth weekly ratings…ABC, your success is missed! (As are the rest of the big 4 networks’ ratings… streaming, DVR, etc killed event network television!)

Three month hiatus!?!?! Seriously? Why does Once always has the longest breaks!?

    • Yes! I LOVE this show and will stick with it through its ups and downs but one of my biggest gripes with it is this stupid three month hiatus. By the time they come back you’ve basically forgotten all that happened in the first half of the season, also with this season not doing as well, couldn’t they come back sooner?

Wonder if OUAT is going to have a proper final season next year despite lackluster numbers.

I am incredibly disappointed in that episode and not just because of the huge plotholes and missed opportunities, or because Hook and Emma were sidelined yet again (let me go bang my head against a wall some more on that one), but I am really mad at what they did to Emma. Just because she was raised by her loving parents she was a delicate flower? Would Bandit Snow and expert swordsman Prince Charming not teach their daughter how to be tough? Would they really raise such a wuss? I don’t think so. All this so that they could once again justify Regina’s choices. Why would Emma thank her, why is it better to have Emma growing up alone, why would our Emma be nonexistent because she grew up happy (again badass Bandit Snow is her mother!). Snow & Charming still had happy childhoods and grew up to be tough heroes but their daughter is weak, fearful and simpers at Regina’s feet (after she kills Emma’s parents). This episode was a huge insult to the character of Emma.

    • Jaissa says:

In a way I agree with you about the whole emma bring wimp thing. But besides that I enjoyed the episode. And I don’t really get your and all this so they could justify Regina chocies. Regina has redeem ourselves and apologize for some of the things she’s done. Regina has changed for the better just as hook has. Unless I am misinterpreting what your trying to say. Why is it that all this cs can only forgive hook but not Regina. They both did bad things in their past but they are both better people now.

  5. Penny says:

Ouch OUAT. Those numbers are terrible! Unfortunately they match a terrible episode. Had Regina just wished for Emma back the entire episode could have been 10 minutes long. I don’t know where this show is going anymore, but it has definitely lost its way.

    • Jaissa says:

The evil queen said you can’t undo wish. That would be undoing that wish.

    • you can’t wish a wish undone they covered that in the episode.

    • Jaissa says:

And actual the ratings for this season at that far off from last season ratings. There not great by no means but still this isn’t much different from last season

    • It has lost its way because the plot just keeps circling around and around in a big loop and never goes anywhere. All of the characters keep going back and forth from good to bad, back to good and it’s like they’re chasing after one bad guy after another to save their town. The plot needs to get deep again and start some new, unusual conflicts. We’re getting tired of the same old story regurgitating itself again and again.

  6. SouthSide says:

I’m suprised that this garbage of a tv show lasted more then 1 season. Maleficent & Lilly say hello! Dumb writers & half of the cast can’t even act!
