Macy's Thanksgiving Parade 2016

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2016: Miss Piggy vs. Savannah Guthrie, Plus 13 Other Moments of Madness

Thursday’s 90th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade featured the return of countless beloved balloons and characters — as well as the birth of a feud.

Following a rousing opening number by the Muppets, Kermit’s better half — understandably out of breath, given what she’d just done — walked over to NBC correspondents Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie, only to be introduced to America as “a winded Miss Piggy.”

If this had been a Real Housewives reunion, Piggy would have snatched Guthrie’s wig — oh, they’d both be wearing wigs in this scenario — and given her the business. But because it’s live TV, and the show must go on, Piggy decided to be the bigger person. (Though you know they had words off camera.)

Of course, the Piggy-Guthrie feud is just one of the many highlights from this year’s big event. Browse our gallery for all the weird encounters you may have missed, then drop a comment with your own thoughts below.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

How DARE you. The current series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is probably the best written yet. It ruins nothing, embraces nearly everything

Wouldn’t miss this parade every year I watch from my home in Toronto, Ontario
It is an amazing parade, I love the balloons. You couldn’t of had a better day.
Macy’s is the store that gives you more – They sure do.

  4. i’ve never understood the appeal of this on tv, you don’t see much of anything.
They just need to keep the camera on the spot where they all perform & leave it
no cutting to other shots, no interviews nothing just floats & performances
