Gotham Enlists Dexter's James Remar to Play Jim Gordon's Secretive Uncle

Gotham is adding a new branch to the Gordon family tree, casting Dexter vet James Remar in the original role of Frank Gordon, TVLine has learned.

Per the official character description, Frank — who’s the uncle of Benjamin McKenzie’s fatherless Jim — “is a master at playing both sides and a man who knows how to keep a secret. Frank abandoned the family after Jim’s father’s fatal car crash and now, 25 years later, he’s returned to reconnect with his estranged nephew. But Frank harbors a dark secret, one that will upset the very foundations of Jim’s world and force him into a terrible choice between saving his family and saving his city.”

In addition to Dexter, Remar’s TV credits include arcs on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and FX’s Wilfred. He’ll also be seen in the upcoming second season of Hulu’s The Path.

His recurring Gotham stint is slated to kick off in early 2017; the Fox drama’s fall finale airs Nov. 28.

  1. Cas says:

He was also in Sex and the City for a few episodes. I really like him so I like this casting :)

  2. Paul Yont says:

Its intersting though. James Remar was also on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, he played Giuseppe Salvatore, Damon and Stefan Salvatore’s father and Stefan Salvatore is played by Paul Wesley, Ben McKenzie’s best friend and James Remar will have the chance to play Ben McKenzie’s uncle on GOTHAM.

  3. Joey Padron says:

Good casting news. Looking forward to see him on the show next year when Gotham returns from holiday break.

  4. Daya says:

I wanted to write “I’m so excited”, but let’s face it: I’m a huge Remar fangirl–ANY appearance on television is going to make me really excited.

Perhaps one day, the television gods will be kind to a fangirl and pick him up for a guest role on NCIS. <3

  5. Michael Summerset says:

“…the Fox drama’s fall finale airs Nov. 28.” Or next Monday. It returns Jan. 16th and goes on Winter Hiatus Jan. 30th after just three episodes. Early 2017 would then suggest it’s sometime in the latter half of January.

    • @Michael where are you seeing these dates at? I’ve been looking on Fox’s PR site, emailed the rep and still have not gotten dates. We know that Gotham will be off for 11 weeks b/c 24 Legacy. But if they follow the pattern you state the finale will be in June this year.
