TVLine Items: Doctor Who Xmas Video, Stranger Things Addition and More

Christmas has come early, Doctor Who fans, courtesy of a sneak peek at the show’s annual holiday special.

In the above scene from The Return of Doctor Mysterio (airing Dec. 25), guest stars Charity Wakefield (The Player) and Justin Chatwin (Orphan Black, Shameless) play an investigative journalist and vigilante superhero, respectively, who team with The Doctor to save New York from an alien threat. (Wait, is this part of the Arrowverse crossover?)

Ready for more of today’s newsy nuggets? Well…

* Brett Gelman (Go On) has joined the cast of Stranger Things Season 2, playing a disgraced journalist-turned-conspiracy theorist, per The Hollywood Reporter.

* Sibylla Deen (Tyrant) will recur during Season 4 of The Last Ship as a cunning survivor of the plague with a special interest in the fate of the world, our sister site Deadline reports.

* Narcos has cast Curtiss Cook (House of Cards) in a recurring role for Season 3, per Deadline. No character details are available yet.

    Brett Gelman playing a conspiracy theorist? I TOTALLY can not picture him in that role. #NoteMySarcasm. And yes I know hashtags don’t work here, it just looks better that way

    I had forgotten how hard I was crushing on Charity Wakefield in The Player. shame she’s only a one-off companion (unless they pull a Donna Noble and have her pop up again later…)

    I really wasn’t sure if there would be a Doctor Who at all this year the way 2016 was going. That’s good. It looks very Legends of Tomorrow. It’s been so long and I’m kinda feeling nostalgic for the RTD era, it’ll probably take me a few weeks to get excited for it.

    Doctor Who ep looks like lots of fun. Can’t wait to see the interaction between the Doctor and Doctor Mysterio. Love Capaldi and hope he sticks around beyond next season.
