The Simpsons: The Whole Family Dies (Except Bart) in Grim New Opening

It’s not a “Treehouse of Horror” episode, but things still get pretty ghastly in the opening sequence of this week’s The Simpsons.

In the credits for Sunday’s episode (Fox, 8/7c), which you can watch above, the Simpson family makes their usual trek home — only each family member, except for Bart, is killed before they can make it back to Evergreen Terrace.

Homer chokes on a plutonium rod at the nuclear plant. Lisa trips on her way out of music class and takes a saxophone to the skull. And Marge and Maggie’s car plunges into a lake when Maggie actually takes the wheel this time.

When Bart arrives home, he finds he’s the only one there. But he’s not too shaken up about it; he just grabs photos of all his family members and arranges them next to him on the couch. Then he celebrates his independence: “Finally, I get the remote!”

Press PLAY on the video above to watch the grim opening sequence, then hit the comments and tell us if they went a bit too far this time.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

I would hate to see the family really die but it was funny!

Think Matt Groening is ready for all this to be over?
