Donnie Wahlberg Nick Lachey CBS Boy Band Comedy Encore

Donnie Wahlberg, Nick Lachey Team Up to Produce Boy-Band Comedy for CBS

New Kids on the Block and 98 Degrees, unite!

Fellow boy-band alums Donnie Wahlberg and Nick Lachey are joining forces to produce a CBS sitcom about a reunited boy band, our sister site Variety is reporting. The single-camera comedy, currently in development and tentatively titled Encore, centers on the members of a boy-band group who reunite 20 years later. (Should sound familiar to those two.) Entourage creator Doug Ellin is on board to write the pilot and serve as executive producer, along with Wahlberg and Lachey.

The two former teen idols actually came up with the idea for the show while touring together and discussing how different their grown-up lives with kids are compared to their original touring days. (Wahlberg was a member of late-’80s hitmakers NKOTB; Lachey came along a decade later as a member of 98 Degrees.) And Wahlberg is already on CBS, with his cop drama Blue Bloods currently in its seventh season.

Plus, there’s another connection here: Entourage, which Ellin created, was based on the life of movie star Mark Wahlberg — Donnie’s real-life brother.

Will you tune in to see Encore’s reunited boy band? Scream your head off in the comments.

This sounds great! Plus it’s something different than what’s out there right now. I hope this gets picked up

I think it’s a good idea too. I was a huge fan of the Backstreet Boys, N SYNC, 98 Degrees, and other boybands as I was a pre-teeen back in the late 90s and early 2000s. It somewhat reminds me of that old MTV show 2Gether as that was a parody of the boyband craze. I hope it gets picked up too as I would check it out.

Didn’t the USA Network try to do a comedy about a boy band some time ago?

Isn’t Justin Timberlake also doing a boy band tv series? And it also sounds similar with the one from Darren Criss. Is pretty boys and music going to be a trend next season?

Just as long as Donnie can stick with Blue Bloods, love him as Danny Reagan.

Is not NBC doing something like that with Zayn as producer? JONAS and Big Time Rush weren’t like really successful so, we have to see if this could work
