Ratings: Supergirl Hits Lows on Halloween

This Halloween, with HUT levels down as much as 14 percent (at 8 o’clock in the 18-49 demo), it was almost all tricks and zero treats for Monday programming.

Drawing 2.2 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating (per finals), Supergirl sustained some of the night’s steepest drops, down 19 and 25 percent to series lows. Leading out of that, Jane the Virgin‘s deflowering (970K/0.4) was steady.

Over on Fox, Gotham (3.2 mil/1.0) and Lucifer (3.4 mil/0.9) each ticked down to hit or tie lows.

Elsewhere on the night….

NBC | The Voice (9.5 mil/2.0) easily led the night even while dropping 17 and 26 percent. Timeless (5.2 mil/1.1) slipped 15 percent to a new demo low.

ABC | Dancing With the Stars (10.4 mil/1.5) dipped 6 percent and a tenth, while the CMA pre-show special thing (4.5 mil/0.7) was just shy of Conviction’s most recent tallies.

CBS | With football factored out, Kevin Can Wait (6.4 mil/1.3), Man With a Plan (6 mil/1.3), 2 Broke Girls (5 mil/1.3), Odd Couple (4.3 mil/0.9) and Scorpion (6.5 mil/1.1) all wound up down.

Yikes. Nobody is watching TV anymore

  2. Jamie says:

I’m enjoying Timeless. The Voice, by default. The rest…nothing.

  3. S says:

Supergirl is safe but has been slipping week after week. Can’t blame Halloween when a show drops and not use that excuse when another show from the same network is steady. Superhero saturation. Get rid of the tropes straight out of comic books and repetitive storylines. Write for a more mature and diverse audience. Find a good balance between action and character moments. This is valid for every DCTV show.

    • Ann says:

Supergirl’s audience probably skews a bit younger, the type of crowd who might go trick or treating, along with their parents. Whereas, I think Jane the Virgin skews a little bit older. Older teens who aren’t trick or treating and college-aged students who most likely will be out partying later at night. So, Supergirl got a doubly whammy losing the younger kids and their adult parents, so I can see why there would be a drop there where Jane the Virgin was steady.

    • Boiler says:

Just wondering, why are kids trick or treating at the time Supergirl is on. Most towns around me have to be done by then

      • Rex the Wonder Dog says:

Kids don’t count anyway. It’s the young adults, 18-34, who are at Halloween parties instead of watching TV.

  4. Pumpkin says:

Well, it’s a low rating, but at least “Jane the Virgin” is steady.

  5. ndixit says:

I am assuming the ratings were down largely because of Halloween. Otherwise that’s a pretty sorry sight everywhere other than CBS.

  6. VB says:

Hey Matt, how are delayed viewing numbers for Super Girl? Do the equal to the show’s CBS numbers when tallied?

    • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

      With Live+7 DVR playback, Supergirl’s S2 average goes from 3.1 mil/1.1 to 4.6 mil/1.7.

      S1 on CBS went from 7.7 mil/1.7 to 10 mil/2.5.

    • JenM says:

Supergirl just isn’t the same without Cat Grant, but I feel it’s slipped in season 2 regardless. Don’t know if that’s just a season 2 slump or due to the network change or what. If I wasn’t a fan from the first season, I wouldn’t be watching now, and don’t know that I will be much longer.

  7. Phun says:

Uggh! Halloween affected Supergirl more than I thought it would. And the good weather in my area for the trick/treaters didn’t help the show either. Hopefully, it’ll bounce back next week.

  8. Kevin says:

Not looking good for Timeless but still eyeing for a full season order by NBC and not only that but the time traveling series won’t be back until November 14th because next week SNL is airing an Election special the day before who will be the next POTUS.

  9. Kim R says:

I just watched the first season of Supergirl on Netflix this weekend and am now up to date on the series. So enjoyable. I do feel Calista’s absence though. Her character brought something special to the storyline.

  10. kmw says:

Pretty bad night all the way around but it was Halloween. I expect most of these shows to tick back up next week. Even down Supergirl is still doing better than most of the CW usually does. Now tonight might be even scarier for ABC and NBC with possible last game of World Series on. CBS decided to air re runs tonight so their line up wouldn’t be crushed like it was on Sunday. Go Cubs!!!!

  11. JT says:

supergirl’s ratings were probably hurt a bit by CW outages in several markets. my signal didn’t kick back in until about 15 or so past the hour. most people probably gave up before that and just decided to watch it ondemand or find a stream somewhere

  12. Guest says:

Another reason, besides Halloween, the “Supergirl” episode “Survivors” might be down in live ratings is because the CW released the episode a day early online so a lot of people may have watched it there before the TV airing.

  13. Boiler says:

Nice for Scorpion and 2 Broke Girls

  14. texmike says:

Supergirl is going down hill. The alien of the week is getting very tiresome. Also tired of her getting her butt kicked every week. How about some heroic acts for a change?

    • Rex the Wonder Dog says:

Plus with all the other storylines going on Supergirl is starting to become a guest star on her own show. Last night there was Alex and Maggie, J’onn and M’gann, and Winn and Mon-El, with Supergirl sort of showing up a few times. And half of the was Kara and Lena or Kara and Snapper. There was maybe 10 minutes max of Supergirl in costume.

  15. N says:

    Don’t you recap Timeless?

  16. GraceM says:

Should have had repays last night. Majority if people were out last night.

  17. GraceM says:

    Repeats.*

  18. Rex the Wonder Dog says:

Ironic it was a Halloween themed episode.

  19. Ralph says:

Why is this such a surprise? It’s Haloween for gods sake. The main audience for Supergirl is young. They were out trick or treating or going to parties. I DVR it and the rest of the CW DC shows and binge watch on The weekend.

  20. parstl says:

    Show is going too _ay.
