World Series Ratings

Ratings: World Series Game 5 Sacks Sunday Night Football

Fox’s World Series coverage on Sunday night scored a 15.3/24 in the preliminary metered market ratings, besting NBC Sunday Night Football by 33 percent.

The Cubs’ 3-2 win over the Indians improved on Game 4’s metered market numbers by 46 percent, and marks the best Game 5 tally since 2003 (Yankees/Marlins).

Total audience and demo numbers for the World Series and SNF will be updated later.

Opposite baseball, football and The Walking Dead, all six broadcast dramas slipped.

ABC’s Once Upon a Time (3 mil/0.9), Secrets and Lies (2.7 mil/0.6) and Quantico (2.4 mil/0.6) all ticked down to new series lows.

CBS’ NCIS: LA (9.8 mil/1.2) fell 14 and 29 percent, Madam Secretary (7.8 mil/0.8) dropped 13 and 22 percent to series lows, and Elementary (5 mil/0.6) was down 7 and 25 percent to new lows.

Is it true that no team has ever come back from a 3-1 deficit in the World Series?

    • Penny says:

6 have actually. The last in 1985. As a Cubs fan, we’re hoping they become #7 :)

    • sg says:

Nope, it looks like 4 other teams have done it, but it’s been a while, The last time was 1985 when the Kansas City Royals came back to beat the St. Louis Cardinals.

According to Wikipedia: The 1985 World Series was the last time a team came back from a 3-1 deficit to win a championship series in major professional sports, until the Cleveland Cavaliers came back from 3-1 down to win the 2016 NBA Finals.

Quantico is in free fall. I know the W-S hurt, but there can’t be a ton of overlap in those viewerships. Quantico needs to write a season finale that can double as a series finale.

Too bad about OUAT. It was an excellent episode. One of my all time favorites for that show. Combo of Hook haters having a hissy fit + football and World Series did not help it

    Go Tribe!

  5. kmw says:

Wow I knew ABC and CBS would take a beating but these numbers are bad. However I bet FOX is glad the Cubs won so they can win another night

  6. Boiler says:

Sort of too bad when an out of date rating system would say Elementary doing worse than OUAT even though 60% more viewers. If they plan to keep the demo it should be more like 25 to 59

    • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

Good luck with that, as always.

      • ronlake28 says:

Matt, it makes more sense because that is where the real money is, not with some high school seniors and college students.

        • Patrick says:

The “olds” may have more money, yes. But that age group is harder to influence via advertising. Older people tend to be more brand loyal and value conscious. Young people are more easily influenced by advertising, and are thus more desirable.

          • Boiler says:

Yet ronlake28’s comment is dead on. People from age 18 to 25 do not have the money to make advertising worth while. Also as someone whose age is above the current demo your older people comment, though perhaps valid at one time, certainly is not anymore. I really want to see this site do an indepth discussion of this topic and why it still matters. Perhaps instead of some of the junky TV shows they review.

Well, we all know now that the World Series is going 7 games. As a life long Cubs fan, tonight’s game will be nerve wracking to say the least!!

BTW – WTH was going on with NCIS last night? It said it was a new episode but DiNozzo was in it. A new episode that was never shown?
