Alex Trebek Jeopardy Video

Jeopardy's Alex Trebek Delivers Sick Burn to 'Loser' Contestant — Watch

Alex Trebek calls ’em like he sees ’em, folks.

During Wednesday’s episode of Jeopardy, contestant Susan Cole explained her passion for “nerdcore hip-hop,” which involves rapping about “video games, science-fiction” and, naturally, “having a hard time meeting romantic partners.”

But the game show’s once-mustachioed host felt he had a more appropriate word to describe this particular group of performers: “losers.”

Fortunately, Cole got the last laugh, winning the game and pocketing more than $20,000. (And you know we’ll be tuning in for her return on Thursday.)

Hit PLAY on the video below to enjoy Trebek’s burn for yourself:

Bet she loved “Thor and Dr. Jones” (Footprints on the Moon). ;)

  2. Jan says:

Lol. She was awesome. I have no doubt her ‘romantic’ life will escalate with this. Lol.

  3. Allison says:

That was kind of dick thing to say.. and I usually find Mr. Trebek hilarious..

  4. Anne says:

So what if she has weird interests? It’s not harming anyone. And putting people down for being different is dickish behaviour.

  5. PatriciaLee says:

Isn’t that what big bang theory is all about, kind of losers in the relationship dept, yet they helped each other (and they like star trek and video games)? I took he meant that, not she’s a loser because of the rap, which the husband thought.

  6. Jackie Hill says:

That was mean and unkind thing for Alex to say.

  7. cgrimner9 says:

I’ll take “Not Newsworthy” for $1k. I sincerely hope Trebek does Not apologize or comment.

  8. Ruquayya Sajjida says:

I still think his comment was rude and uncalled for–even if he claims to be joking. Still, I’m happy for the winner. She’d best put the money to good use, like dropping her next rap album. 😂 But seriously, congrats to her. Nothing but love for Jeopardy!

The reason Alex Trebek is such a great game show host is because he can read his contestants and banter with them appropriately. Alex was, in no way, shape or form offensive to Ms. Cole. Now I’ll admit that he might have offended some viewers but guess what; it doesn’t matter. The viewer was not the person with whom Alex was conversing, Ms. Cole was and she seemed fine with the tone of the conversation. Why do people not understand that TV is a conversation between a group of people on a screen and not the general public…unless of course, you happen to be one of the people on my TV screen…and as such, we’re eavesdropping on their conversations, they haven’t included us. If you were the target of this conversation and you were offended then you have a right be upset but since you weren’t, your opinion is moot.

  10. Steve F. says:

What is, “The best tongue-in-cheek response to a Jeopardy! contestant’s hobbies”?

  11. Codemaster JG says:

Hard time finding romance? I’d date her.

Oh … ok, point taken. heh.

  12. Loli says:

In the words of the fake Sean Connery,
    “Suck it, Trebek.”

  13. E. D. Boddy says:

Finally, I found a website where at least some people got that Alex was merely making a jest, although his “just teasing” after should have made it completely obvious (to anyone who isn’t loser!)

  14. He was teasing her, and said so. This is so much ado about nothing!

  15. John Corbae says:

A burn from the host of nerd central TV show for the last 20 years.

  16. Murphy Moody says:

Trebek is the real loser. He would never get out of the red in his own show.
