Chuck Boss to Make 'Magic' for ABC

ABC is looking to make a little magic with Chuck co-creator Chris Fedak.

The Alphabet Network has greenlit a pilot for Deception, a magic-themed drama written by Fedak that also boasts über producer Greg Berlanti and Blindspot creator Martin Gero among its EPs. Magician David Kwong, who has worked as a creative consultant on Blindspot and the feature film Now You See Me, will serve as a co-producer.

Per the official logline, Deception tells the tale of a superstar magician whose career is plagued by scandal. In an effort to keep practicing the arts of deception, illusion and influence, he teams with the FBI to become the world’s first consulting illusionist.

Since Chuck, Fedak has worked as an EP on the one-and-done Forever and is the current co-showrunner on Berlanti’s DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Sounds somewhat reminiscent of The Magician.

  3. The FBI is getting pretty crowded with all these consultants.

  4. “the world’s first consulting illusionist.”

Every cop show has consulting something. detective, author, psychic, zombie, mentalist, superhuman, time traveller, ghost, monkey.

For gods sake someone just commission Joey tribbiani’s Mac and Cheese and be done with it.

    Berlanti, I expected better.

I was all about this until the FBI part. Sounds like The Mentalist or something. Unless the style is kinda like Chuck, like quirky and funny and endearing, but I’m doubting it.

  6. Luis Roman says:

    Isn’t this basically “White Collar?”

  7. Malkavian says:

Christ, I would much rather just have Chuck” back, it was a great show, Even a reboot would have a better chance then this pile of something a monkey flung.

    I’d cast Jon Dorenbos
( he’s a real life footballer player and magician )

You had me until “he teams with the FBI.” I’m embarrassed for them at this point.

There’s so many shows on TV these days it seems they are running out of titles. There was an NBC show titled Deception only 3 years ago.

Fed, Berlanti, and Gero? I’ll definitely give it a try.

Oh, how original. A procedural with a quirky consultant. Yawn.
